Water pumps!

I have had over heating problems with my car for a while its ok when driving fast but when left to idle or in traffic will get hot quickly....ive changed thermostats and had my headgasket done and all sorts but my cambelt needs doing and thought that the water pump maybe my problem!

Ive gone to buy one and seems there is two types a 97-03 and a 96-

the problem is i have swapped the engine in my car and have no way of telling what year it is...does anyone know the difference between these two?? or an easy way to tell on the car so i can order the correct one!

and its a 106 gti engine if there is any difference...

should be a engine code on the block, take that to a pug dealer and they will tell you the part number :)

wheres the engine number again on the block??

the front right???

there is a reason behind it but is there any other way of telling?? whats the actual difference between them?
