Can I wire up an after market electronic oil pressure gauge to the original oil pressure switch on the 16v?

I thought I would be able to but the gauge has 3 connections and the sender only 1.

3 wires to go to the sensor? Surely one earth, one switched live, and one signal?

No, the pressure switch in the block has a single wire to it. The gauge has 3, its a TIM gauge labelled S,G,I next to each connection on the back. So im guessing Signal, Ground and urrrrrm I..... lol

Yeh, I'd try and tap into the oil pressure sensor, and see what readings you get on the gauge.

I = ignition ?

yes the gauge will need ground and a live feed to work, and the other wire will be for the singal,

so you need to find a good earthing point, and then wire it to a live point to give it power, and then the other wrie should do to the pressure switch wire,
