I put doesnt really work, as in its not going to make a noticable difference, and as such isnt really worth the price.

Remove un-needed weight i.e. back seats = Free power

cheaper way is to put a lightweight alternator pulley on have a smaller pulley, gearing down the alternator so freeing up a little bit of power

The unit is quite simple and does what it says on the tin. If setup well they will free up power when its needed. So unlike most cheap bolt on bits this unit does actually work. Its just your talking relatively small amounts of power and in my opinion you would be far better putting the money towards a more substantial modification if your after a significant gain in power.

It does work but its a rip off, you could make the exact same thing yourself for under £30 apparently.
Plus although Johns obviously stupidly knowledgable on TU tuning etc, some of the stuff on their site is bullshit. Check out the power gains from their green (raceland stlyee) filter.

But then you can make a perfectly good stand alone ECU for around £100 so are £500 ECUs a ripoff? Same goes for everything that's for sale. You can pay £2 or more on a take away coffee that only costs pennies. How about clothing, do you really think jeans cost £50 or £100 to make? or even £10? No not even close. When you look at it everything has a markup on. Its how our economy works.

128 is a shocking price for that, absolute robbery. cost of the components required is sub £5, and maybe £10 if you want the posh box.
The circuit is piss easy to make!

Talking in extremes there mate, its got a markup of about 1000% for very common easy to get compononents. Thats not economics thats a pisstake

I don't recall how many amps the Saxo alternator is but perhaps around 90amps? You could easily spend £30 for just a average quality relay on its own. Really you would be after one with a low a resistance as possible so you could pay double this. I am not saying the free power unit is great value but if you start comparing it to some of the oil, plugs, HT leads, air filters or that sort of thing about its perfectly comparable. If you think you could sell one of comparable quality for £10 then do it and I am positive you will sell tones of them. But I would be shocked if you could actually sell a comparable quality item for ten times that after tax and still show a good profit after TAX. Come on guys live in the real world here.

You would have fun trying to use that as a battery isolator in the same way. It also cost £22.33 just for one part. I did find a few cheap ones from the US that could be used but still not on par with what GMC were selling.

Ide like to see if one of these actually did make a tidy difference but if you ask me its just liek one of those Electric supercharger induction thingy's i cant see it being anygood .
Has anyone tried this Free power device?
tipvts
14th October 2009, 01:36
yeah i would like to get some feedback from some one that tried this device but id say it is like the electronic super charger and the £10 25bhp chip which are nonesense:wall:
TU-Tuning
14th October 2009, 02:27
Power claims aside, it is a modification that will work, the physics behind it are sound whereas the 'super chips' arent logically sound they just trick the ECU and the 'electric superchargers' are just to catch out chavs and are a complete joke

what id like to no are the power claims gmc make correct because if they are ill buy one

Agreed, then test it, RR'd it. If it works, make loads, slight mark up, sell 'em... everyones a winner!

it does work but do not expect a miracle.
You may regain 1 or 2 % in parasitic losses. Lets put that in perspective on a standard engine.
Thats 2 - 3 bhp
Worth doing on a championship such as stock hatch where the engines are the same and 1 or 2 bhp will get your nose in the first corner first, but the reality is you probably will not notice on a normal car.
The thing is that often in racing you have to chase the small numbers. I'll throw me as an example. My engine will hopefully push out around 170bhp. A dry sump can add around 2%, crank scraper plate 2%, electric water pump 1%, lets add this device 1%, lightweight crank pulley and camshaft pulleys 1%
Thats a potential gain of 11bhp which isnt that bad

Aye, plus a lot of those things do change the character of the engine, more free revving etc which does make it better to drive even on the roads, just feels better aswell as being more efficient. Depends how deep your pockets are and how much you like french cars lol

Alot of modern cars have fancy alts that disconnect when the batteries charged to improve mpg so it should work. If somebody can find a uk shop for the relays ill design a circuit and postup the schematics
