Hi mate, ive just bought a kent cam for my vtr
i havent fitted it yet, but i know you need to change the headgasket.
you only need to have a remap on the wilder cams the mild ones like i have had dont need a remap but will see better gains if a remap was done

to be honest mate i know less then you, i dont really know alot lol
i have asked about and my local garage said around £200 to do it and replace the headgasket, he didnt say how long he would take though.
as for the piper fast road cam im unsure but sounds more like a wilder cam so MAY need a remap
sorry i cant help much mate, try looking around for members who have fitted cams and pm them your questions
cheers

It's a head off job. Need a new head gasket, head bolts, coolant and oil. Cambelt and tensioner are worth doing if you're unsure of when the belt was changed, water pump is optional but only £20 for one of those.

Piper 270/ 285, Kent PT30/ PT40, Newman PH1/ PH3 will all run fine unmapped - no lumpy idle etc. At the very least, I'd advise fitting the cam with a vernier pulley and having the timing setup by a reputable tuner with rolling road facilities. When fitting the cam, use the original pulley and locking hole to set to standard timing (flywheel should be locked at front of block too), carefully remove the pulley and swap for the vernier. Run it at this setting until you can get it setup properly.
