VTR Slow warmng up

My '02 VTR seems incredibly slow to warm up - 10 miles + before the gauge reaches the middle and the heater gets working, after which its OK and stable and the heater's good. Is this normal?

I've changed the thermostat which improved the temperature but slowed it down even more if anything. My previous 1.1 106 and wife's current diesel Marea are all loads quicker warming; the only reason I can think why they'd be faster (with better heater too) is they're working harder to hawl the car around.....

Should get warm air within 2 mins and hot in 3-4mins. Suspect either the stat you replaced was faulty or maybe you engine IS hot but your heaters are not tranferring the heat? It might be something silly like an airlock or a partially blocked matrix. Try flushing the matrix in both directions with garden hose and change stat again using a new seal then fill with 50/50 antifreeze and bleed as per guides on here.

my heaters get warm in about 3 mins.....but can take my car about 10 mins to reach temperature properly.
