Just had a read of the latest redline and theyve got a bit of an insite into this, E85

Basically its a mix of ethanol and petrol, that is cheaper, more enviromently freindly, and the good bit 104 RON out of the pump compared to the normal 95 of oridinary fule :geek:. To me this seems a win win for every one.

The only down side is that only a hanfull of morrisons stores sell it :( but they are looking to expand. :)

Any way the point is 104 RON!! if i was to get my Furbo mapped on this id be looking at around a 10-15% increase in BHP and around the same in torque!!:fcuk: for a cheaper price than ordinary dino juice!!! basically free power as i need to buy fuel anyway lol!!

just hope that they build one near me now!! :wall: But if youve got one near you kkkeerrcchhiinngg!!

Normal = 95
Texaco = ?
BP Ultimate = 97 or 102
Esso Supreme = 97
Optimax = 98
Tesco = 99

My VTR runs like shite on 99 though.

no lol

tbh you will only be able to acheive that extra power on boosted cars that are mapped for that high octane fuel, na wont see such a drastic increase.

no real benifits for n/a tho!?

Without sounding like a killjoy though, surely cars are mapped to 95 in the EU for a reason, rather than it just being set as a standard? Cant see it being good for cars without standard internals after the remap?

Afaik a VTS is mapped to run on fuel upto 98RON. If this is of benift to the car or not, I don't know.

Higher RON fuel really needs the ECU remapping to benifit from it.

I think you need bigger injectors as well? Would just stick to super

LOL @ this thread. :)

Higher RON fuel won't give you more BHP. It's not that simples... ;)

Takes a long explanation and I haven't time at the minute. Maybe later. :)

Off the top of my head the higher RON allows you to run higher compression safely - so in a high spec NA build it could be beneficial !

* Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong :P*

no benefit if you just whang it in still needs a remap of some sort to take advantage even then gains won't be huge if car is standard

Copied from google search on a random website

The basic issue with running E85 on non flex fuel vehicle is that Ethanol contains slightly less energy than gasoline.. you need about 10%-30% more fuel running through your injectors for the vehicle to run on E85 . If you just try and run E85 in a vehicle not designed to run e85 what happens is your Check Engine light will come on , your cars computer is telling you that the vehicle is running lean ( not enough fuel- and that is what will cause engine problems).

Robert-Waite is correct Ethonal does have a lower energy value. It also has a very different lubrication and corrosion aspect. It can potentially do a lot of damage to a engine to a engine not intended for it.

Ethanol damages plastic and rubber, and our cars have plastic fuel tanks, so not a good idea.......

The racing V8 on Licence to LEMans had plastic trumpets and the Ethanol just ate through them!!

well yes you would have to use braided fuel lines and bigger injectors but it may be worth it in the long run cheaper fuel more power, i wont be doin it just was an interesting subject
