Hellooooo.

First of all, I know you will all probably think im a 'noob' and here’s another chav wanting to turbo his Saxo. But im merely asking these questions to increase my knowledge on turbos. As what I currently do know about them is very little

I consider myself to be pretty competent when it comes to N/A cars, having quite a lot of experience dealing with them (if any ones interested ive put several B16A2 engines into Honda civic EG‘s, helped a friend do a manual gear box conversion on a MK4 supra and generally lots of tinkering with cars for as long as I can remember.) Bearing in mind im not classing my self as an expert. In fact far from it.

Now, my friend is scrapping his 1.8 Golf GTI Turbo. And has offered me any parts I like off of it and like any real man would, i took the turbo, hoses, intercooler and connecting parts.

My questions are as follows:

1) If running a stupidly low boost. say around 4 PSI, would the ECU still need to be re-mapped?

2)Yet again, for running a boringly low boost would i literally only need to fit the turbo into the standard Saxo manifold (remove the cat). Then run an oil feed to the turbo, then drain to the sump. and have a pipe from the turbo to the inlet?

3) Is it easy adapting the standard Saxo manifold to incorporate a turbo.

Im thinking surly it cant be that simple? There must be a complication somewhere along the lines? I know for higher boost you need a 5th injector, Stand alone ECU, intercooler etc.

Like I said im not particularly looking to fit this to my car. Just wanting some help to increase my knowledge on the subject.

By the way I have MK2 Saxo VTR.

Any help will be much obliged!
Thanks

you couldnt run any boost with the standard ECU/map iirc

no brainer you want the whole engine box mounts etc etc

In short no, you will need a map to run any worthwhile ammount of boost.

Excuse my ignorance.
Do you mean the whole engine, etc from the golf? If so its not much use as its completely broke. It has had a very hard and rough life.

Also can the standard ECU be mapped to tolerate a really low psi? Or would a stand allown/piggy back system be nessesary?

if you need something to control some extra injectors (which you will need for the extra air going into the engine ;) )

I have an MF2 for sale, self mappable injector driver, 2 injectors, injector elbow and wiring harness + instructions ;) :)

cheaper than going for a standalone ECU as you cant run boost on the standard ECU :y:
