You need to adjust your tappets and maybe check your oil level.

The engine on my FTO is starting to get tappy, but then it is an 11 year old car.

Mines 8 years old! i changed the oil in september and it was still tapping! is it easy to adjust the tappets then?

Its been sunny today so i've had my window open and really been able to hear it!

There are tools you can buy to adjust the tappets... not sure where you'd get them from... try Halfrauds or any local motorspares dealer!

Or ask your local garage if they can do it for you... shouldn't cost you too much!

Mine is noisy aswell...only when at running temperature though.

All you need is some feeler gauges and then adjust them. My dad has kindly offered smileys/smiley17.gif

mines pretty tappy but a lot of the mk1 engines are like that. i've had the tappets checked out on mine once & told they were ok but think its time for another check.
