hello everyone,

im sure youv read this 100 times before but i have just done an engine swap on my mk2 2001 y-reg vtr. The Problem i have is that although it has the mk2 silvertop engine in it from standard, it has the single plug ecu and wiring loom with the cat underneath the car, like the mk1 saxo would have.

i was offered a re-built engine, also from a 2001 vtr on a y-reg, that come with a piper manifold and a kent cam, vernier pulley set up at a price i could not refuse. the looms, ecu and wiring loom were the same.

now i have the engine in and the immobiliser light started flashing and the car will turn over but not start - im presuming this means the ecu has locked itself up good and proper

i was llucky to have a mate who also has a phase 2 vtr thats exactly the same as mine that he bought with a front end smash that hes been using for spare parts, so i managed to get a spare ecu set up off of it - ecu, immobiliser, key and pick up. this did not work either and the ecu remains locked on that now as well and the immobiliser light still flashes.

i have followed all the ecu guides on here and other internet pages from the start so i cant see how this has happened not once but twice? anyone have any ideas? very frustrating as i have a proven 121bhp cammed vtr on the drive that i cant do anything with at the moment after working flat out all weekend on it.

if i need to get it unlocked im willing to do this asap, can anyone give me an idea of cost?

i apologise for bringing up a subject thats been raised a lot before! any help you can give would be very much appreciated.

cheers, james

have you rmeoved the immobiliser box from under the passenger side dash? A quick search would have told you this if you havn't.

I can't understand how the ECU has locked if you've used your old Loom and Ecu? If you've used a different Ecu then you'd need the immobiliser chip out of the key, and the immobiliser box for it to work.

If you send the Ecu off the bluehawk electronics they'll unlock it for you, and if you remove the immobiliser box and fit an unlocked Ecu your onto a winner
