what benifits will i see
where can i get it done
and how do i know if its already been done

From what i see :-

No real "benefits" other than you effectivly have no more immobiliser.

Can unlock it yourself if on your current car (lotsa info to be found on this)
Ryanmt (sp) can unlock them if not got all the bits you require to DIY it
You will know if it's been done if someone manages to break into and rob your car with nothing more than a screwdriver.

I'm sure people will be more than happy to jump on me to correct me if i;m wrong but thought i'd atleast acknowlege the post

The only benefits to unlocked ECU's are for putting in a different car, because they're locked to the car they come on, so the immobiliser stops them from starting any other car.

There's no performance increases.

So what titchster is saying is most people unlock ECU's for engine conversions
