View Full Version : Exhaust hanging...

Previous owner of my car put a savage jap-can backbox on, and also extended (rather badly tbh) the exhaust recess so that he could put the backbox futher up into the bumper.

I HATE jap-cans and am removing it to fit a more subtle outward rolled backbox I got off of a mate, so I'm just needing some advice:

1. The new backbox outlet seems to be around 0.5/1.0" smaller than the oem saxo exhaust pipe. I am wondering if I could use a small section of pipe, slightly cut 4 slits on the pipe and bend it inward so that it basically reduces the inlet size to fit the new backbox snugly, then gungum around the slits and end to plug it and stop exhaust blowing?

2. What would be the best way to hang the backbox? As I'm wanting it sitting in the 'cut-out' recess he made and obviously standard exhaust hanging rubbers will leave it hanging where the oem exhaust recess would be.

Your advice/help would be grateful, thanks.

Not sure why you'd want to reduce the pipe size, why not weld it together? That way you will never have any blowing and it'll never come apart.

And you can buy shorter hangers on eBay or at Halfords for a few quid :)

Need to reduce the pipe size as the oem saxo exhaust inlet is larger than the new backbox (I think the saxo inlet is around 58mm, the backbox is 48/50mm), can't weld as I don't have a welder handy :fcuk:
