Late 2001 on VTRs have 8bhp more, but a more restrictive exhaust system. When this is removed then the difference will become apparent, although standard for standard both are even, although Im sure many VTR owners will debate this from both sides of the fence.

Although the exhaust can be replaced reasonably easily, youll need to replace the restrictive part, the catalytic converter which is in the exhaust manifold downpipe, for every MOT. The easiest way around this is to fit a MK1 Cat setup under the car, and use a different exhaust manifold, either a MK1 8v OEM unit or an uprated one. This will leave a sensor unfitted, a 'Lambda' Sensor, which youll need to protect with a metal sleeve available from here;

Early MK2s have MK1 engines. Theres a sticky in the engine section showing the difference in appearance of the engines over the years.

Also, the performance of any car on the whole is greatly effected by its previous treatment. A well serviced, well kept 97 VTR will perform much better than an 02 VTR thats been serviced once and left on a drive for the last year.

people who use the section frequently to help people, get a bit pissed off with people not even bothering to search when they have allready discussed this before.

The info is there but people dont bother to search for it.

Thats why people get moody.

To be fair a lot of these questions have been asked a lot, and Raunchz has answered them many times himself, so its annoying to see them asked again as we dont want to repeat ourselves on here every other day. He's one of the most knowledgeable and helful members of the site when hes not banging his head against a wall :p
