ive been reading some people cut of there cats metal casing and weld it to there decat pipe so that it appears to have a cat when the fuzz or vosa stop you.
what does this involve as i cant figure out how to get the metal casing off. is it a case of butchering it with the grinder? thanks

Some people just take a cat and smash all the insides out then re-fit it.

Could try the way you suggested though.

however should vosa pull you over do an emissions test...

your time and effort will be wasted.

imo if your that worried get a sports cat.

Have people many on here actually been rozzered for not having a cat? I know the police can stop you for having a noisy zorst but can they fine you for not having a cat as well? I thought it was just VOSA who did emissions tests at the roadside.

Yes they can.

You see the fuzz regularly doing roadside tests around here.

I lolled when i saw them putting the emissions probe up the tailpipe of an old 60's yank tank.

how would you smash all the insides lol, just ram a pipe in there. would it be the same as having a stainless steel decat pipe?

vosa are always up at around about by me every wednesday without fail.

very wednesday it takes me an extra 2 miles to get to college ;).

my mate got told to put his standard exhaust back go, get it tested, and hand the form signed by mot tester to the police station saying the emissions are a-ok. no fine or points.

a bit off subject here but how different are the emissions with and without the cat? my fiat that i just got rid of had a knackered cat, so much rattling that i drilled a big hole in it and filled it with copper wire to stop all the crap rattling about. it still passed the emissions test, even though it was knackered. the guy at the garage was quite surprised, as was i cos it had been gone for months before the mot :)

It does make a huge difference without one mate, you will be lucky to pass without.

You do know what a catalyst does right?

yeah i know what it does, but the garage said it was well within limits. dont know how because it really was gone, had that confirmed by 2 places before the mot but didnt want to pay 130 quid for a new one. it could have been to do with engine size as it was smaller than a saxo. but i just thought the limits would be relative to engine size. plus there is a new law in now that says they have to have a certain type of cat. no more 2nd hand ones :(

a well maintained engine can pass without a cat pretty easily.

ye ive already got a decat, just looking ahead incase i get stopped by vosa as there all over the place these days. if i did get stopped would be little too late to quickly jack up the car and throw on the cat before the policeman gets out his car lol

dont want to spend the dosh for a sports cat. might just go at my cat with the grinder and try and take the plates off it

I got given a sports cat but my mate shot it with an Airriffel, so I just took the cat out with a iron bar by pushing it out and chopping it up with cutters Etc... Then welded the holes up then fitted it... Sounds good to be honest and I did notice a small gain in low-end power.

And it looks like I have a cat plus it actually passed the MOT believe it or not :)
