hi guys, iv got a mk2 02plate vtr with a custom straight through steel twin exhaust... but its too loud, but performance is goood!
So iv been lookin at gettin a new backbox or system to quite it down a bit but obviously dont want to loose power,
How can i get around this? cheers

Backbox alone wont add any BHP.
Could go for a Supersprint with the centre silencer and keep the cat aswell?
Magnex and Sportex are also good below 3000 RPM aswell :)

ye im not worried about gaining bhp coz i wudnt get anymore from my straight through anyway. dont rele want to have to go back to a cat though because of the power it would loose.

If you decat it will be loud mate, no real way around it.
Could use silencers but the more silencers, the more restrictive the exhaust is and the less BHP you gain.
Catback with a Sports cat? Would still be fairly loud but a good comprimise.

magnex silcence system.
works great and doesnt sound like a wet fart like the supersprint pea shooters etc..

Erm not totally true, theres things like pulse tuning, location of silencers bore etc etc..
its not just about straight through Fur teh winz.

Couldnt agree more! Had a crap custom exhaust on my vts for years, when i swapped to the silenced magnex cat back system it felt much more responsive and isnt raspy.

Ahh forgot
backpressure etc etc
Have seen moto-X bikes with a small expansion in the heady part of the exhaust is that similar to "pulse tuning" ?

Same for me, i love mine :P nice subtle rumble low in the rev range and a nice roar when giving it some

a decently made system with lots of silencers will not loose you power.

Magnex silenced cat back will make about 2Bhp on a VTS btw. Nice and quiet too.

Just a Back Box?
What sort of BHP on a VTR would a Full exhaust system make, from Manifold to back box? (inc De-Cat obv)

It varies alot mate, if you has a good induction kit aswell then:
Saxsport exhaust + decat + Supersprint 4-2-1 heat wrapped
= Could make over 10bhp :)

have a full magnex system with decat on my vts, isnt very loud at all until you start to "make progress"!!! seems to have made the car a bit less restrictive aswell.

That would of been a 2 stroke bike, most 2 stroke bikes have exhaust expansion chambers where back pressure is built to give the bike a boost.
As for exhaust, can't go wrong with a supersprint centre + some sort of 3 inch backbox (piper/kamracing/magnex)
Will perform better than your custom one, and should be alot quieter

+ they dont look as gay, and are rarely found on 1.1 owners and their 'race cars' ;)

If you want power and quiet, simply use the stock exhaust and put a 6psi turbo conversion on it.
Simplez :)

the baffles will not be helpful though. Certainly theres nothing wrong with the bore size though if you use the vts standard system :D

Supersprint have a good reputation for BQ imo, I wouldnt go slating them there.
I just hate the sound and the fact every tard goes on about their 'race system'

true,i put a supersprint on me fiances bothers car, good bq and elds etc etc ,just seemed the thickness of the bore walls were thin, compared to magnex's.
kam would be interesting to compare to pugsport zorst.
supersprint to me is just too poppy and high pitched

I sell both supersprint and pugsport so am in a better position than most to judge. As the saxsport is made by scorpion as well as the peugeot sport, using the same centrepipe I think its fair to say the quality will be the same too.
The supersprint is by far the better product. Its a different thickness as its a different material and its certainly right for the job. It has better welding and better fitment by a country mile, its also lighter by over a kilo. If you want to see the quality to use with stainless steel look at the supersprint manifolds as abenchmark. That will show you the right thickness stainless steel to use on an exhaust system to last as long as you own the car. The quality of welding and finishing that goes into every one is the best I have seen yet in an off the shelf product. Pugsports do come back with broken rear hangers every now and then, although this is covered by warantee its a nuisance for the customer. I've not had a supersprint returned with a manufacturing defect or failure in all the time I've sold them.
People have to remember that they are buying a race exhaust system as well. There is a mid silencer version that is quieter and makes similar power.

Lol no mate, a cat back goes from the end of the cat to the backbox.
Probs make similair power on a VTR dude.

Ive got a piper ss silenced 'race' system with a raceland manifold. Its pretty quiet and not stupidly raspy like the supersprint.

might nick the supersprint off jays then to try compare it to the magnex.
he has iirc a non silenced cat back, and mine is silenced.
although a well designed exhaust should make the same power as a non silenced and silenced.

supersprint imo
pugsport = good gains but broken brakets + gets very loud over time
supersprint = very good gains, good quality but loud
magnex = not the best gains, lasted adges on my old vtr, looks realy nice on saxos, not the loudest,
its all down too prefrance,
i like simplicity + good power gains + rasp = supersprint

the new backbox is a bit quieter than the old one, but you still get your pops and bangs - the benefit of a straight through system.
We have a few further improvements for next to the design we are going to be doing to our 106 system first next year. I spent all day yesterday in exeter sorting that!

ive heard that removing the silencer and keeping the cat will make it louder than removing the cat and keeping the silencer :y:
