engine wont start?

car wont start it sounded like a diesel for about 5 mins then cut out and wont start, it tries but wont fire into life any ideas? 98 vts

sounds like you've starved it of oil and its now shagged..if it has oil it might not be getting it around the engine enough, i.e oil pump gone. what does it sound like when you try and start it, does it make a really weird whiney smashey noise, could be the cambelt slipped a tooth causing the timing to run out, or snapped which.... well, lets not go there! :)
