VTR's are not loads faster, but they are faster; of course.
Furio's are said to get to 60mph in 11.2 seconds when new, VTR''s are said to get to 60 mph in 9.9 seconds with the 90bph engine, the 98bph engine does it in 9.1 seconds, when new.
In the real world, say a VTR and a Furio are doing 60 in fourth gear and then accelerate in fourth, by the redline in each car, the VTR will probably be about 6 car lenghts in front imo.

the difference will reily show after 60mph the torque is alot higher in the vtr iirc

lol I love those words 'fast as f*ck - ironic'ly they imply your car is slow
Try and get a ride in a vtr and furio to make a judgment yourself - will be the best way IMO figures won't tell you the full story

It wont be that far off the Mk1s, but the MK2 has almost 25bhp more, not to mention more torque etc So it will be a fair bit faster yes.

I'd say my vtr is running late 8's to 60 just with an enclosed and a supersprint manifold - Janspeed. Seems really quick compared to when i first got it. And i'm sure it would leave a furio.

How is this been timed?

Am gonna take a recording and count it from there, Seriously it pulls like a train. Mind you very fresh engine 53 plate never go over 3k revs until engine warms up. Pretty quick for a vtr ;)

my old 52 reg clio would leave a furio but would get eaten by my new new mk2 vtr

simple as this. vts' eats over vtrs. vtrs eat over furios. furios eat over 1.1s.

who really cares tbh. Furio and mk1 silvertop isnt a huge difference in real world conditions. Furio to mk2 vtr there is a difference but not huge amounts. At the end of the day if you want to go fast in a car, get yourself on an ARDS course and learn to drive fast and get a race license.
I used to be able to keep up with vtr's in a 1.1 eastcoast, so in a furio im sure i could go past a vtr.
If you want a daily driver which looks good get a furio, if you want to go quick get a vts. Simple

As Tom said down to the driver aswell, I had a play with a Twingo cup today in my VTR and he wasn't behind me for long til i got bored and let him catch up.

i spend quite alot of time in a friends mk2 VTR , and i drive a furio with mild mods..
i can spot a difference but its not huge... just havnt had the time to "test it" yet...
even if he beats me .. ill pull the subaru card on him

vtr will be a tad faster than a furio. As said above especially after 60mph.

yep it will be faster but you will be saving on tax fuel and insurance so who's the winner lol

5th December 2009, 16:04
Mk2 Vtr is a fair bit quicker imo
After owning a VTS i went to furio, then vtr and finally back to vts!
As soon as i drove the furio it was up for sale

Tope end a VTR clearly has the edge BUT whilst neither are rapid, my furio is still quite nippy an as a young driver the small difference in speed aint worth the huge difference in insurance cost :y:

I like it when some numpty in a BMW etc is behind you on the straight but when you come to a corner he drops right back because he can't drive. "straight line hero's", he he. Saxo's are great in the twisties

Iv owned a vts, and drove a vtr, to be honest none are quick so a furio well has no chance lol
And Plus You Shouldn't Be Bothered How Fast They Are Anyway, Especially Not For Road Use!

depends how much work is done on the VTR or furio
air and exhaust mods etc

oh and i dont think theres much between them

Standard for standard (Mk1 VTR), there's not a lot in it. Mainly cause the box ratios on the VTR are so shit, change the box, and straight away there's a difference between the two.
BTW, silvertop VTR, breathing mods, 1.1 box, 8.6 to 60, timed at York. :p

my friend had a furio with breather mods and a straight through with mani, and my vtr with just a filter, pulled away, but not loads, the torque is where you notice the difference, the vtr pulls up hills etc alot better, and then the vts, there is a big difference. Its alot quicker.

There is only 8bhp difference between mk1 and mk2 vtrs
mk1/early mk2 - 90bhp
late mk2 - 98bhp

I think he means furio is 75 horse and late phase 2 Vtarr is 100.

The VTR's a bit more grunty at the lower end but the Furio has a shorter final drive so they pick up about the same at low speeds, but above 75mph the VTR fucks off in comparison. But neither are exactly quick!
FWIW I've driven a good VTR 90bhp and a 98bhp VTR, and personally I couldn't tell the difference, they both felt about the same. The only 8v TU 1.6 I've driven which actually felt quick (even though it wasn't massively) was a S2 Rallye.
Krys_23
8th December 2009, 23:05
Lol Icey and all the Rallye's are 90bhp .. I think.
Icey_Furio
8th December 2009, 23:10
Lol Icey and all the Rallye's are 90bhp .. I think.
You think wrong, the S2 is 105bhp. S1 was 100bhp, but that was a 1.3.
They also have a higher rev limiter than a VTR (7200rpm) and better gearing, hence them actually feeling quick. Dicked a V6 Cougar off the lights when I was a nipper in one, although that's not exactly hard I guess! :homme:
Krys_23
8th December 2009, 23:30
Was the 1.3 Really 100bhp! Jesus, I was only ever in a mates one but he piled it.. And scrapped the rallye box!! Doh.
Icey_Furio
8th December 2009, 23:34
Yeah mate. The XSi was 100bhp too for the 1.4, and 101bhp for the 1.6. The VTR is under powered really, it's de-tuned for economy/insurance. Thats why it's slower and only revs to 6200rpm.
Krys_23
9th December 2009, 00:00
I thought it was the fact it was an 8v that the rev limiter kicked in early.

:wall:
LOL, where did you get that from? I'll do you a bet....£200 cash says a 1.6 106 Rallye does NOT have 90bhp. Witnesses please?! :y:
Think about it Einstein....if a 106 Rallye had 90bhp, why is it's book 0-60mph time SLOWER than a Furios?! :clapping:
Forget bullshit.com and go drive a 106 Rallye S2. Infact, go on the Rallye forums and tell them their cars have 90bhp from the factory. It'll be a laugh! :panic:

I thought it was the fact it was an 8v that the rev limiter kicked in early.
The rev limiter kicks in where ever the ECU tells it to. In the case of the VTR, it kicks in at 6250rpm because the ECU tells it do, because Citroen told the ECU to. The reason they told the ECU to kick in early is because the VTR uses basic parts like a 1.1 spec downpipe, it uses a really mild cam, it has really tall gearing and is set up to deliberately be in a low state of tune in order to reduce the stresses on the engine and make it more reliable, as they knew they'd sell loads. It also needed to be as economical as possible.
90bhp is enough to be nippy in a small light car, but it's no speed machine.

Get a VTR, Furio's are quiet a bit slower - 2.3 seconds to 60 slower to be precise - that is quiet alot.

Lmfao @ this thread.
Btw:
S1 Rallye = 100Bhp
S2 Rallye = 103Bhp
1.4 XSi = 100Bhp or 95Bhp(Cat)
1.6 XSi = 105Bhp
