So i'm off to buy my JP4 head tomorrow to put on my 106 GTI.

I've got a good deal on it at £100.

I know i'm going to have to get the head skimmed which should be about £30.

Also been told to get a head rebuild kit, new headgasket kit including stem seals etc... waterpump and so on.

So just wondering, how much roughly all that lot is going to cost on top of the £130 im already spending on the head and the skimming?

Thanks,

Andy

Ouch.

So:

Engine - £100
Skimming - £30
Other bits - £100
Then of course labour.

Is this jp4 head conversion really going to be worth it hmmm or should i just get new headgasket etc... for my J4 head?

unless your going serious power hunting dont waste your money on it. Remember you need to get new threads drilled and tapped on the inlet aswell

Got KrisB doing all the work on it, so he can do all that.

I'm just sick of my rocker cover leaking, and was going to spend £120 on the new rockers.

I can get the whole head for £100 + £100 on the rebuild kit etc...

Would you not bother then?

waste tbh. I'd buy a j4 head for £60 fully built and bolt it on. Then buy some new rockers or instant gasket yours on

But the jp4 head has the newer rockers with the replaceable seals doesnt it hence why i was going to get that instead.

My view is buy it.

You were going to spend £120 on JP4 covers anyway. So buying this for £100 saves you £20, and you still end up with JP4 covers.

Then you have the head to do what you want with - you can either sell it, or invest a bit of money into it and get it fitted with the anticipation of going further spec wise in the future.

Been reading about on different places and am getting a mixed view.

I'm picking my jp4 head up tomorrow and then taking it to be skimmed.

1. So is it best to use my j4 valve springs or keep the current jp4 valve springs? - Keep seeing different views on this, i'm going to be using my j4 cams until i get some 708's or some similarly wild cams.
2. Will i need a 106 GTI head gasket kit or a 206 head gasket kit (where the head is from)
3. What size gasket will i need due to it being skimmed?

I am planning on using my j4 cams, but will upgrade to some 708's at a later stage, ready for tb's.

Thanks,

Andy
