I doubt you'll notice any difference tbh - my breathed gained ~8bhp with a Kent PT40, similar profile to the PH3.

For what it costs/ entails, I wouldn't bother mate. Can hardly tell the difference.
Save your money towards a 16V transplant. ;)

A Ph3 with a map should give around 20bhp, i dont know how you only got 8

lol pt40 should give atleast 15-20 bhp on a well breathing motor, your engine must have been severly worn out

20bhp over standard is do-able with an unmapped PH3 and breathing mods - mine made 118bhp at the fly and ran fine. For what it cost me though, it didn't feel any quicker... closer ratio gearbox may have helped but you have to draw the line somewhere. May as well drop a valver in and have 120bhp from stock.
I don't think a cammed VTR would have much to gain from a remap tbh... maybe 2-3bhp at the most. Would be worthwhile mapping with a wilder cam - i.e a Kent PT41.
The engine only had 36k miles on IIRC. If you don't believe me, fit a PT40 yourself and see what the figures are like. ;)

He rolled 118 or there abouts unmapped iirc.^^ Edit- Got in before me :P
My old vtr engine made 119.5 with a pt40 and the usual breathing mods, also unmapped. Id expect approx 125ish with a map. thats from a 98bhp base..

I bet the 16V in standard guise feels quicker in every way though? :)
If I had a gun to my head and had to cam a VTR again, would be with something wild like a PT41. Wouldn't bother with anything milder.

Yeh i have to agree, pt41 or ph4 for it to be worthwhile.
A shorter gearbox is the best thing you can do for a vtr, the s2 box i put on mine made more difference than all the engine mods put together.
