Hello, just wondering, what engine parts can be changed on a single plug 1.4 saxo engine to give increased response, power or efficiency.

I mean orginal parts that could be sourced from a scrap yard from higher powered peugeots or perhaps VTR's.

And would the car need to be re mapped etc to benefit?

Cheers :y:

xsi/rallye head, but you'd need to pocket the pistons i belive, unless its the cast iron bottom end.

vtr inlet is quite popular.

Depends what engine your talking about. The AX 1.4 GTI and 106 1.4 XSI are pretty much it. Some people actually take parts off some of the sporty small cc TU engines to tune the bigger ones. If you have one of the economy model 1.4s you can always swap the hole engine, ECU, engine loom and so on over to a sporty model. It can be done but it is quite a big job for some one who does not normally do that sort of thing. Most people just stick a 16v 1.6 in if there doing this as its the same amount of work and you end up with a lot more power.

Possible to get a good 90bhp from that with standard bits. my AX has one :)

Problem is they have weak conrods in the later silvertop models. The early low CR black top pistons have much stronger rods but there lacking in CR.

AX GTi and 106 XSi 1.4 use domed high comp pistons and the same inlet manifold as a VTR. They have lairier cams and mapping to suit, hence they actually make more power than VTR's. Only difference is they have iron blocks, not alloy (presumably they needed to be stronger) so I'm not sure what effect you'd have fitting high comp pistons to an alloy block 1.4. Only one way to find out!

I actually have a set of GTi pistons and a complete cylinder head I'm selling soon if you need.
