vts drinking fuel?

hi, im getting bout 25mpg out of my vts driving sensibly, is this normal? its got pipercross induction kit, 4-1 manifold onto a de-cat magnex straight through. oh and its on 16's. ive got mates with beemers that use alot less lol.
if anyones got a vts with similar setup that could compare to would be a help

Need to drive even more sensibly...see adsayers MPG guide :y:

There's VTS' on here doing 40+ MPG, similar exhaust system, but with standard wheels and airbox, not that should make too much difference.

Have you got a cold air feed to the pipercross or a heatwrapped manifold? Both should help get more cold air to the engine making it more responsive and efficent, same power will be developed at slightly lower revs :)

And get rid of any excess weight! (subs, seats, rubbish, fat friends, etc.)

i had a pipercross viper cold air feed induction on there, tried an open as well to no affect, havent heat wrapped my mani tho
it runs lumpy on tick over and occasionly drops revs an tries to cut out in traffic, will a remap help this?

Clean up all you sensors first, and replace if need be would be much cheaper than a remap, which may not even solve your problems.

You'd be hard pushed to get as low as 25mpg in a non-standard VTS booting it everywhere.

Need's a good service, what tyres you running? they pumped up.

Far too many anomalies.

my headgaskets on its way out on my vts and im still getting 35 ish mpg to work and back.
cant wait to get it fixed, im hoping at least 40mpg.

my vts gets about 38-41mpg most of the time, and thats with abit of spirited driving thrown in aswell|!!

serviced it recently, oils stayin clean and level. got plenty of power, other than running lumpy doesnt seem to be any problems ther. tyres are contis on the front and yokos back around 28-30 psi in them. ive just got sum ngk iridium plugs to go in there but i cant see as thats going to make to much differance lol running out of things to change/ try tbh

very similar to my vehicle setup - except I've got a mpg munching xsi box, yet I'm getting 41mpg combined.

16s won't help in the slightest but as I've just mentioned in another thread we need to know driving DETAILS boy!!!!

Driving Style
Driving duration - short trips?
Driving area - town/motorway?
Tyre pressures you're using?
when was it last serviced?
And have you cleaned the induction kit, most people with those damn pipercrosses have never cleaned them in their lives you see.

more the info the better we can determine the what's wrong - although high 20's is the official Urban mpg I'm led to believe.

They really don't, christ I've had 55mpg out of the S... they don't drink fuel the way people make out - I mean I was UBER worried when I first got one because of all the bullshit scare stories about how it was going to eat petrol faster than a ferrari - does it fuck! The conclusion is... either Saxp's VTS owners driving can't drive for shit or their engines are jolly rodgered.

well ive got 3 mk2 vts"s and dont have any problems with petrol drinking!! but i service mine quite offten!! only time the petrol light comes on when the s has had some stick..............:y::p

As said, they really don't drink fuel. I'm getting almost the same MPG from my S as I got from my 1.1.

Even if I ragged the tits off it everywhere I wouldn't get down to 25MPG.

If you drive economically, a VTS can be more economical than a 1.1 for example. With a 1.1 say your joining a motorway slip road, to accelerate from 40-70 you literally have to pedal the metal in 3rd = bad for fuel consumption.

Compare that to a vts where you could quite easily leave it in 4th and go half throttle, and would probably still get to 70 before the 1.1 hits 41.

im carrying a biggish system in the boot but nothing more then a small person, and i only usualy have 1 person with me...
is there anything i could check,i have air filter,stainless zorst with de cat thats about it at the momment,all air in tyres are correct psi (nitrogen filled if it makes a differance) and i have no other things in the car??:y:

It was ace though not that I'd ever want to own one... yes I'm more than happy to have friends and family that own such beasts but only so I didn't have to pay the stupid tax, insurance and servicing costs on the damn car every 6k or whatever it was.

i drive steady to work and back,its 10.3 miles each way and i nip to the shops and things aswell,most of the drive to work are just steady back roads 40-50mph depending on other cars,,i dont rag my car,i have spent all my time and money on the dam thing and it still needs work!!
i mainly just do the work run as i cant afford to be doing anything else tbh
....all in all i drive it pritty steady tbf:y:

ok... that's interesting dude. I find that the S really gobbles fuel when the engine is cold, which is where I drive my 'softest', if you like, to compensate, say very very light throttle inputs and changing gear at 2500 rpm and stuff...

now, the air filter? what condition is it in?
You say the tyre pressures are correct, yet you've got nitrogen in them so I'm assuming you believe they're correct when they were originally filled? I'd check them again just be sure... 2.3 bar front, 2.0 bar rear.

when was it last serviced?

If all those things checks out it could be something slightly more severe, like a leak in the exhaust pipe, lambda possibly dodgy (you don't have the ecu light up by any chance?), or something much more serious like the internals themselves.

Tax and insurance is cheap.

£190 for the year tax (TVR's have no CO2 rating)

£760 fully comp @ 21 with 3 years no claims.

But its costs roughtly £1k every 6k miles to service and the best i've got on a run is 19.8mpg. It averages 14.8 and worst from a tank was 9.4.

The sound system could part be to blame too, the more electric the cars systems use up the harder the alternator is to turn. If you listen to music through a highly amped system a lot you'll lose a bit of MPG. Shouldn't be too mmajor though.

well i put the lump in a couple of month ago and did a full sevice then....tyres were done last week and get checked regulary as my mate works at the garage that do it...i ran some injector cleaner through it last month and ive just had a new coil pack fitted

i do try and change in the low revs and be light on the throttle especialy when its cold ...

lambda sensor did come up on the diognostic but the fault was cleared tho the car does smell rich...could do with a new air filter tbh

TBH there's nothing wrong with the OEM set up. Its just quiet.

When i first got my Volvo 850R i use to get 21-23mpg tops, after i gave it a big service and replaced coil pack, leads, plus king lead i got just over 30mpg on b-roads and 35mpg on m'ways no problem. You be surpised what a service can do.

i get around 30mpg driving short journeys and stuff, thats with my spec(see sig) and driving above quickly(not ragging)

i could improve it but i cant sit at 30mph everywhere it takes forever!

rite alot of repleys nw all sayin similar mpg, my main drive is to work which is about 30 miles round trip along a road with very few stops so mainly 5th gear driving, mybe giving it a little blip out of junctions ect.
serviced couple of weeks ago, cleaned air filter and tryed an open kit.
it had bocsh 4 pin plugs in there which ive just changed to ngks
i know the car has had a replacement box in the past, which i pressume was an s box, any differences in the casings to a vtr box to tell?
i drive an fix new holland tractors for a living so i reckon not to bad a driver, just a bit of speed differance between them ha ha
