I've never had a ported and polished head before, so did i get a good deal?

Also i'll be getting fast road cams to fit with it after christmas. Was looking at Catcams. Could anyone tell me the difference between catcams 4901201 and 4901202?

Who did the work?
Was it done on a flow bench?
Did the bad spelling not put you off?

Will compliment some cams well :)

Quite cheap that, Hi-flow would charge about £300 for that work :)

Tis only cheap if the workmanship is good.
Ive had and built some big power engines that have won championships and ive never polishd valves up!

The main thing you need to know is who did it and if its flow benchd?
Or just done by some old boy with a dremel

one will give power and one will loose power

if porting a head is basically the same as the casings on a scoot then this work is high class, looks very nice :) will ad a bit of power im sure, maybe nice racing cams to compliment it?

Ask for invoice of the person who did it, should be a hefty sum £200 upwards for decent head work can cost upwards of £600! In cars now a days it's all about names/companies, but why hasn't he put up who or which company did the work and to what cost, personally if it had £400's of work done i'd put it up as then more people would be willing to pay for it! But it doesn't say which sort of makes you think it could be a home/diy job possibly.

Its a big misconseption that "port and polishing" increase power. Often the roughness helps mix the air and fuel mixture. Gas-flowing is not something that you'd do at home so he'll be able to tell you where it was done. But if it has had the work done to it that he says has, it will only be of much use with a set of cams in (PH 3's etc).

A good port and polish job WILL increase power. FACT.

Although a certain roughness should be maintained as you said :)

Have you checked that its the correct head for your car? What year is your car.

What year is yours as the ad only says mk2. Is it a 90 or 98bhp head that has been fetled???

Only if done correctly. If the ports are made larger a suitable camshaft will need to be matched to the engine due to the peak VE being changed. Take for example the exhaust port, if excussively ported it can lead to a lack of gas interia which means the engine may only be able to get rid of say 85% of its burnt air and feul mixture, this then dilutes the fresh incoming mix. Its a very seemilar story on the inlet side as well. If the ports are too large then due to again to a lack of gas interia the engine will not be able to achieve 100% VE.

ah well, i think i've done good with it. i'm willing to take criticism for buying it, but at the end of the day, they guys got years of experience doing head work, i asked the relevent questions before buying.
we wont know if i wasted my money or not untill its fitted in the new year with my cams.

which leads me to my second question which hasnt been answered

Could anyone tell me the difference between catcams 4901201 and 4901202?
