Hi,

I have saxo exclusive 1998 1.4i. One month ago, i have checked the coolant level and it was on the maximum line but now i have checked today, it was over the maximum limit nearly 3-4 inches obove just 2 inches below the cap. Is something wrong with my engine or any thing else. From driving point of view, i have heared any noise and its runnign smoothly as before. Any help/advise will be really helpfull.

Regards

are you parking on a flat surface, have you bled it properly, was the engine previously warm

the coolant is under pressure when warm/hot so the level will appear lower

if its worrying you, drain a bit

just found out mine is right upto the top, isnt fussing me becuase my car isnt going to be driven untill next year, so its just going to be sat around :) lol, but if your worried drain it, it can be dangerous but tbf its not the worst thing in the world for your little saxo :)

It should be on maximum when the car is up to temperature.

im pretty sure it should be up to the maximum when cold, because you cant adjust the level when the car is hot...

It will just eject what it does not need, no worries, also it needs to be checked when cold. Seems that the Tu engine cars always rest a bit below max and I think that's just what they do to be honest. If you are losing water it's either leaking or burning. Try a new rad cap first if it's losing it.

It expands when it gets hotter. So when its up to temperature it should be at roughly maximum.

if the pressure gets too high it will just force the excess out of the radiator cap without causing any damage

It should be checked hot but not just after turning the engine off or the coolant will boil as soon as you take the cap off as there will be no top pressure to stop it from boiling. Leave it about 10 minutes before removing the cap.

Thanks All for your comments and it really helped and now i am less worried. The coolant level when cold is more than maximum 2-3 inch. In summer it was on maximim limit exactly and i have not toppet yet. As the coolant is over maximum when cold so i think i should have to drain some coolant. Thanks Again to all.
