hi guys i have a mk2 1.1 desire would like a bit more power any ideas.
ano there upgrading to a vtr but spent alot on the car

The best thing is a bigger engine but if you dont want to then a turbo is probably the second best way. Failing that just start off with some breathing mods, like exhaust, induction kit and maybe get some cams and a remap :)

But a bigger engine is best, even a moderatly budgeted turbo conversion may only get you to VTR kind of power.

What about a VTR? Or a 1.4 engine?

If you turbo your standard 1.1 engine then it would be about the same to insure as a VTR. If you definetly want to keep your standard engine and get a little more power without the insurance going up too much then Just breathing mods and cams mate but that would still only put you at around 80bhp :n:

all i can say is 1.4 or vtr but if not just induction kit cams remapping straight through exhaust and get rid of the back seats and the spare wheel and sound sytem if you have one and you might gain a bit of power :)

Depends how good you are at mechanics, its not the most difficult job if you know what your doing. Just do your research and if your still in doubt, go to a garage to get it done :)

all you will get in here is dont waste your money opower hunting on a 1.1. which is right but if your like us and have spent alot on the car and cant afford or dont have the means to do a conversion. the best things you can do is.

good air intake with a cold air feed.
you can have the tb port and polished
decat straight through exhaust
strip as much out as you can.

all these will improve it slightly but it will never be that fast it is only a 1.1.

ive got a 1.1 aswell, going down the same route! want to make it as fast as possible! i believe every little helps! so even getting a quickshift will make it abit quicker. could also give the engine a good service (change oil, oil filter, plugs etc) not only will there be a performance inprovement! but maybe better MPG! :D

my advice would be to make sure the engines in good health, leave it well alone.
Focus on making it nice and comfy to drive, and look good.
You wont impress anybody with your power figures on 1.1. You wont be impressed with how much money you will have to spend on it either.

Agree with this and to add i would just get a nice sounding exhaust and a open induction kit, so at least you get the feeling of more power ;)

I want a vts.....i can get decent insurance on a 1.1 goes up a tenner a month on a vtr.....get an extra 8valves and they go fuckin mad on you and say its 3.5k :S WTF

Yea I have driven a vtr when i borrowed my mates 4days after i passed my test when my wheel rubbed through my bottom hose haha bad times :( drove a vts aswell and they are faster as everyone knows.....but I dont see how they can double the insurance

I want more power. I was going to do a 16v conversion....but might just get a vtr....i know everyone on here bangs on about 16v better than 8v which it is.....but atleast if a buy a vtr my insurance is legit :D lol just cant find any nice clean examples for sale :(

to be fair mate if you get a raceland manifold do the cams a stright through exhust lower strut and re mapped and a good induction kit you will be not far off a vts as standard and i no if you did all that to a vts it would rip but to be fare the money you spend extra on the vtr and save on the insurence still dont add up to just the insurance on a vts lol :)

Thats pretty much the plan tbh mate. Although yea do that to a VTS be rapid....but you would get ass raped on insurance....keep shoping round for a nice vtr :) 1.1badboy will do for now not in any hurry lol just want some more power now

ino ther are some stunnin saxos on here. Been to view a few on ebay....but most are fucked and have been ragged..(like mine lol) high milage etc wich for my 1st car dint bother me but want something decent now :) got a bargain on that one mate :)

Went to 1 when i first finished the car....then some chavs round here got jelous and decided to vandalise car, cracked bumper, scratched paint, pulled spoiler off.

If you've spent money on it and have a decent budget why not turbo it? Gav aka Sophia Bush turbo'd a 1.1 and made a nice 140ish bhp! Pop'd eventually I beleive, but why not run a lower boost setup 100/110Bhp nice and safe would cost £1500+ Depending on how much work you do yourself though.
