What
Did you say your deciding on whether to get a VTR or VTS?
If you can afford it get the VTS as it has the extra 20 / 30bhp more and has better scope for tuning, might aswell start off with as much power as possible before tuning :)

As long as there the same type ECU:
"A 16v will fit straight in most Saxos no problems. Just get the 16v engine from the same year as your car and same ECU. There are 2 main types of ECU, a Single Plug and a 3 Plug.
I.E 1998 single plug 16v into a 1998 single plug VTR/1.1/1.4"

Same year into same year won't necessarily just plug and play.
Fact. Mine didn't.
Although it'll be closer than 3 plug into 1 plug, or vice versa.

If you swap sensors then yes, the 3plug looms run different sensors/coilpacks to single plugs for example.
The basic engine is different but 99% the same so for example if you have a 1998 saxo vts and you blow the engine, you can put a bare 2003 3 plug engine in using the old loom/sensors.
