Boils down to money if you want torque go boost if you want the cheaper ish option

cams, manifold, exhaust, induction remap

If going boost, go for something similar to a TD04 turbo, or some sort of diesel turbo.

yeah the vtr does have good torque. all 8valves do, te nova gte had more toque than the 16valve gsi.

Torque is how much work an engine can do and HP is how quickly it can do it ;)

Its actually a very good question. Power is torque in time. You can increase torque and end up going slower. Just look at the Saxo diesel, bags or torque but poor speed as it has poor power across its rev range. If you are trying to make you car go faster you want more power preferably across as larger rev range that you can use.

That is not actually true. Its a very common misconception that is compounded by many new reporters and even some not so bright racing driver. People often use to work torque to represent a cars grunt but in reality it has nothing to do with that.

well it sort of does really, in simple terms torque is just a force which can be pulled or pushed and how strongly it is rotated coming from very basic engineering work. In terms of a car engine torque is like the magnitude of the pulling force which is provided by the engine really

Yes but it is in no relation to time. Your engine may be able to lift 100lb but it may take it 1 or even 1000 year to lift it 1 inch. Where another engine may only lift 10lb but can life it a inch in 1 second. What engine will lift 1tone a foot faster? Torque is in no relation to any actual work done. Torque on its own has absolutely no relations to a vehicles performance. Power as in bhp is turning force in time. Its like saying it can produce X lb turning force and it takes X seconds to do this.

When people say they want more torque to make there car go faster or accelerate faster what there really saying is they want more power. They just think there talking about torque when in reality its torque in time hence its really power there talking about.

Edit: I just added this to make it a little more clear. Its a example of two engine.

Engine 1 can lift 60lb 1 foot.

Engine 2 can lift 10lb 1 foot.

So engine 1 has more torque but.

Engine 1 can lift 60lb 1 foot in 1 minute.

Engine 2 can lift 10lb 1 foot in 10 seconds.

So they both produce 60lbft per minute. Or to but it another way they both produce the same power.

There end result is the same and if all other aspects are equal will perform with the equivalent performance if geared to equivalent speed.
