my dad has bought me a k&n induction kit for my mk2 saxo furio (1.4) and a couple of my mates have said that they are rubbish because they suck in heat and reduce performance but i thought they where one of the better makes.they advised me to get an enclosed induction kit so im wondering whether to keep the one my dad bought me or swap it for the enclosed induction on kamracing
would like some opinions please as people on here generally know more than my mates :p

Open cones suck in hot air reducing performance
Enclosed can reduce heat soak and maintain the same performance.
The best bet is to buy a panel filter and cold air feed tube. And fit the cold air feed to a good source of cold air

If you want a inuction kit then go for the Raceland enclosed on Kam Racing, with the Green filter for £85 :)
If you want probably the best setup then go for the panel filter as Tom said up there ^
I have a open filter with heat shield, and some ducting and i havn't noticed any difference in performance tbh infact it seems to rev easier. Nothing bad has come of it, and it makes a nice induction noise :)

Iv got a k&n 57i gen2, so open with a heat sheild. You notice a bit extra horse but makes a nice grunt!

iv got the k&n 57i also but enclosed ones do seem better, but im aways had k&n and rate them highley.

No induction kit is going to gain you any more than 5bhp AT THE ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM. Most likely 1-3bhp normally, some may lose you some and some may make no difference. Just either get the Raceland or keep the one you have got. Save you money for a 4-2-1 manifold or something that will get you a slightly bigger gain.

Keep the one you've got mate, it's not worth spending £80+ for the sake of about 2 horsepower. Save the money and buy some porn.

more likely to lose power or gain 1bhp max. I have never heard anyone gaining power from an induction kit. Nobody can provide proof either

There must be some dyno results some where? I do remember reading that the BMC CDA in most cases lost power
ANd the Gen2 came out on top? Wonder if they tried OE airbox with panel filter / ducting etc?

well i run a rolling road with a bmc and it lost power, then itg panel filter in o/e airbox that was basically standard bhp it was 120.9bhp
bmc ran 118.6

Did you do it with standard airbox, and standard panel filter? See what power the car did have standard at the time?

im not really concerned bout power gain tbh but the inductione kit is a present off my dad so i was just wondering whether the k&n induction would reduce the perfromance

Yes it is more likely to reduce power. But, if you like the induction kit and want the sound use it, you wont notice any loss of power (through heat soak) on the road.

Not worth changing it just get a cold air feed or old broken down washing machine be cheapest solution once the hoses arent screwed

What type of K&N is it?
If it the K&N 57i Gen2 then keep it, they are very good kits My mate has one dont do much for performance but it give better throttle response and sound good!
if its just the 57i then its not bad but it wont be as good as the Gen2 cause there is no heatsheild or cold air feed iirc
I like the BMC CDAs more than the raceland ones cause i personally thing they look better :)
