Has anyone ever had a part time driving job at 18? Where can you work, and what sort of driving? What's required for the job and what's the pay etc like?
I'm just trying to see what sort of driving jobs you can do at 18 part-time as I'd be interested in trying to get a driving job instead of my current job in a store! Would be much more fun imo. Main thing really is the part-time bit, ~15 hours give or take. Any ideas? E.g. What's required to become a taxi driver?
Preferabley driving in another car to your own (because of wear and tear etc.)

forget taxi driver as theres a lot of unseen costs to think of, ie: taxi hire / equipment hire in the taxi etc. only thing i can think of is pizza delivery on a bike or work part time delivering for a hardware company.

When you say hardware company, is that things like screwfix? (Sorry if that seems a stupid question!) Anyone done deliverys for a local chinese/takeway? If so what was that like?
And when they say you need '1 years driving experience', does that year include learning to drive ? I.e. I started learning on December 2nd 2008, passed on March 31st 2009, will I have a years driving experience already? Or do I have a years driving experience on March 31st 2010?
Cheers!

Most places you need to be 21 mate, Hard to find a place which will let you drive at 18.

How many hours is that doing? Was it a matter of they pay you a flat rate and you cover petrol etc? Or amount per delivery etc? Presumebly your average takeaway is going to be bothered about age/experience?

As said most places will want a years experiance, that is of holding a full license.
Some will want 3year and others that you are over 21.
If you use your own car then dont forget to get business use added to the policy

Yeah I was looking up about that as there seem to be confusion as to whether or not it was 21 or not, is it definitely 18 then? Anyone work for them part-time? What's the job like?

Not too bad suppose. I would need to take home around £100+ a week for it to be worth leaving my current job, even then with the wear on the car + petrol it might be hard to earn that much ? Currently do 15 hours a week though.

Why not do this and your current job?

Part of reason for wanting driving job was wanting to leave current job, can be a bit crap at times. Also hours would nackering and with 6th form it probably wouldn't be the best idea to rack up that many hours with working. + I already work all day Saturday/Sunday and I imagine the delivery job would be on the evenings on them days, which would be killer!
Will think about it, possibly could reduce hours in current job and do this, not sure at the moment!

not worth it as you will have to change your insurance to use your car for work as well

Depends on the company though I've heard sometimes people have had little to no difference in their price..? Currently with Adrian flux if that makes any odds.

If you "need" money a cash in hand piece work job is not a good choice

Depends upon your insurance company, cost the missus£5 to get work cover

Yeah admittedly you've got the risk of inconsistency.. I mean the only thing I really "need" the money for as such is car insurance each month, petrol and mobile phone.

9am-7pm, that's a heavy shift! + The only day I'd be able to do that is a Saturday which wouldn't be much good.. Current job works out at about £7 an hour but can vary slightly as it's sales.. Looks like Tesco is of the cards anyway.

An hours break for 10 hours work ?
We get 2 hours split into whatever you want for 10 hours work on the shopfloor.

Used to earn £800 a month at 17/18 when i was a delivery driver for an indian restaurant.
Did 48 hours of work in 4 days though :panic: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Then got a job in a pizza shop and used to get about £40 a night, 3 nights a week, that's like 21 hours or something.
I hated it tbh... was fun at first though.

Is there no place online how you can apply for Tesco driving? I have been working for Sainsbury's for two years on shop floor and can't stand it!

You can be a driver for any takeway company from the aeg of 18, but you have to change you insurance details as you are using the car for business. Failure to do so, does result in being proscuted for no insurance if caught by the old bill.
Driving for a company such as tesco or any major delvery company, requires that you are over the age of 21/25 and have previous experience as a delivery driver. If not you have to take a course and pass it, in order to be allowed to driver as a delivery driver. Check ur license as you will find it's not endorsed as a delivery driver, only cars.

Not true, you have to have your licence for atleast a year and no more than 6 points. And yes you obviously have to pass the course but it really isn't that hard once you get used to the van.
I am working just over 30 hours on shopfloor as a team leader plus whatever hours I can on dotcom driving as every other department has been stripped of its overtime, happens at this time of year, every year :(.

What department are you on mate? My manager sort of wanted me to apply for team leader but I didn't bother because it was too much hassle.
