Idea that's been floating around in my head for a while... has anyone done this before? Does anyone know how hard it would be?

205 1.9 is only 130 bhp - Vts in 120 and lighter!

If you are going to put the 1.9GTi engine in, why not go for the 1.9 16V (Mi16) out of the 406?

It'd be easier to just buy a 205 gti - they aren't expensive to buy in their own right and will generally be more reliable than putting the engine into a Saxo

Better version of that engine are the 306 Gti 2.0 16v version (167bhp)
or 206 Gti 180 (guess the bhp)

The mi16 was from the 405 in its early 1.9 form
or the 2.0 was in the late ones and the 306 s16
the 206gti 180 is an ew engine not an xu
id just get a 205 or 309

considering the engines are old they are probably not kicking out 130bhp any more. Then you have the fact its an 8v so will not be as revy at the top of the powerband. Its about the same weight as the TU engine, but the gearbox is heavier. It does not fit straight in
Basically its a ballache for no gain whatsoever.
Look for a gti-6, 1.8 16v 306 engine (needs a few mods to make fast like a gti-6 head) or similar 16v.
I'm using a 1.8 16v in my racecar as it has a lot of potential. I might get 190bhp with tb's with standard internals.

cool was just looking to do something different. so would the 1.8 16v 306 engine drop in or would that need extensive work?

no engines other than the TU engines drop in and the biggest they go is to a 1.6 16v
You could get a stroker kit to get it to a 1.8 though. All the rest are XU or EW engines and then whatever the newest ones are.
At minimum you will need custom mounts, modifications to the inner arches, probably a bit of work to the exhaust tunnel, custom driveshafts. I'd want to make the install simpler so would look at an aftermarket ecu rather than trying to use an original, then whatever small extra work that crops up around that....

you mean a stroker like the one from cituning? what would be the power gains from this? in other words would it just be easier to cam it?

Aren't the 1.8 16v 306 lumps only 112bhp though?
