I'v only driven my saxo vtr 51 plate for a few days since i got it back from garage, the car well, nippy it is, but the engine and overall build quality seems rubbish (compared to my previous rides; civics or any other cars iv driven tbh) ... was expecting that though still, ok here are the problems well questions i have for VTR owners (pref mk2 owners) :

Does the engine fan or fan keep coming on after a little nippy drive ? mine does, even when the cars off

Do you hear little noises inside (interior or maybe exterior) little twiggles, squeels (discreet yet noticable to the keen listener) ?

boot is always open when car is started, once off the boot closes too (cant you lock lock the boot while car is running) ?

These questions might sound stupid, but you have to remember im new to saxo's ... only other cit i had was a ax gti for my first motor, that i knew was going have certain problems listed above, but for a 2001 plate car ? come on ? i'v had the car for over 9 months but onbly recently started to drive it as had to sell other cars before, but this is erm well ... to be honest, i dont think im liking it at the moment and i am thinking of selling the thing, come on ! its only got 29k on the clock and already tits and tats ...

Hey they do rattle and feel in my opinion quite cheap inside, but like you said they r nippy and when slammed they handle like a dream, after a while you'll get use to it. smileys/smiley14.gif

easy tigers

if the engine is hot after a nippy drive then yes the fan will come on to keep it cool. Its a small rad and it does get hot

Noises: yes some squeeks easy sorted though, find wahts squeeking and stop it.

Locking: unfortuntely thats the case with central locking, lock the doors when you get in and it will lock all

Cant expect the world from a car that weighs 920kg and costs a few grand

Yes its common for the fan to come on and run when the engines off, its the cars way of keeping it at optimal temp.

Saxos are notorious for little creaks and noises in the cabin, most are the dash or head unit area, although some problems can cause these but if they are internal noises id imagine its them.

The way the central locking works is that all doors open (and boot) together, you can open the boot with the key and the rest will stay locked, but there is no remote fob part for just the boot as std. You can also wire in a release for just the boot on a button as a mod.

as you have just said its sometimes these little things that seperate likes and dislikes.

as for the radiator fan.. the radiators are relativly small so the wont cool the coolant as effectivly!..
and the boot is wired to the central locking wiring!. you could probably wire it yourself to stay locked if you are handy with a soldering iron!.

Is it possible to upgrade the fan ? so this wont happen ? what mods are required, i like the look of the saxo, and to be honest is is 'fun' to drive, iv already well before i drove it had mods (engine and some exterior) planned, but looks like im going to have to spend elsewere, so can you get a better fan for it ? Thanks for the quick reply's lads and info. smileys/smiley2.gif

here is a handy tip for you!.. you could de-lock the boot and have a boot pop solenoid wired to a remote or alarm fob (if you have a compatible alarm). that way your boot is always locked unless you press the button to make it pop!.

the problem is there is not much room under the bonnet for a bigger radiator.. i suppose its possible but you would have to make brackets!.. its not a bigger fan you need!.

beg to differ i put a longer radiator on my phase one saxo after the turbo conv with no probs at all smileys/smiley2.gif

there we go then it is possible!... what radiator did you use?.

Reef
3rd March 2006, 23:30
yeah mate what did you use? will it be ok on a none turbo vtr ?

Scott

vts and diesel rad are far bigger than the vtr rad. Also the GMC aluminium rad is massive again over the standard vts rad

yes mate no probs look on ebay under vtr radiators i paid 69 quid for a alloy one better cooling due to its longer length smileys/smiley4.gif

Reef

so if i put a bigger one in shouldnt make no more noise after ? i.e. if engine heats up would it cool it there and then instead of when you turn off car and continues ?

Scott
4th March 2006, 00:11
no if its hot enough the fan will continue, same as it would on any car.

Basicly mate your saxo's gonna rattle and make noises enless you pay out or sound deaden it all. it's just somthing that will happen.

Engine fan, Why does it boether you? again if your engines hot it's gonna need cooling down, and your fan will stay on untill it's cool. On any car from saxo to a £100k car, fans always gonna come on.

Just something you have to put up with on saxo's.

Mine dont bother me.

yeah mine has lil rattels n things but i got a alarm fitted to mine so that sorted out the boot opening problem n the radiator fan will hapen on any car its just 2 kool the coolant, dunt worry bout it, but if u want to stop the boot been open get a good alarm fitted.
