Hi folks,

Im looking for a manifold for my vts, I have an enclosed incduction kit with green filter, and a magnex system with the decat.

I have been looking at a GMC 4-1 manifold for my car, and I am wondering what people think about the manifold itself and also what kind of gains, noise etc that I could be expecting???

I have used the search button but cant really get a decent answer from the various number of posts about the GMC manifolds.

Any help would be great guys!

I had one on my vtr it gave the car a better sound different to most other saxo/106's as most people use 4-2-1 mani's. It gave good performance aswel when I got mines RR'd.

Most people say go 4-2-1 as you get more torque in the mid range and less at the top.

I bought a piper 4-1 for my S as it was cheaper but just as good:y:

Ok, so do you rekon there is a noticeable increase in power and that the car will pull a bit better top end?

I've never had a 4-2-1 so I can't compare really. I had the 4-1 on the vtr and it defo improved the car it pulled alot more and just felt less restricted. I went for a 4-1 on the S because it would compliment the cams which make their power top end aswell.

sorry I can't be much more help

GMC manifolds are very good. I believe they now do one in stainless steel as well. If you're buying a mild steel one, it might be worth looking into having it ceramic coated (inside and out) or something similar to hold back the rust. As for noise, it's hard to say - manifolds kinda alter the tone of the exhaust.

The 4-1's do sit lower than 4-2-1's though, so extra care needed over speed bumps.

Yeh, I was told that the 4-1 do sit lower. Do you think heat wrapping a mild steel manifold will prevent rusting?? GMC recommended spraying the manifold with high temp paint to try and avoid rusting??

Never used heat wrap myself mate, seems like more of a pain than it's worth.

High temp paint is a good bet - make sure you get plenty layers on it though. :)

Heat wrapping will do naff all to prevent rusting!

GMC are very good, you wont be dissapointed, the 4-1 suits the VTS better anyway really.

By the sounds of things, the GMC manifolds seem to be a good quality and popular choice of manifold.

Does anyone know or recommend any specific types of ceramic coatings or high temp paint to use, and also where to get the stuff from??

Kam do a Raceland one that fits a VTR. It even fits a MK2 VTR without having to relocate the oil filter. I know this because i have one! Its quite good.

yet the pugsport manifold used in the maxis was a 4-2-1.

Many people prefer 4-2-1s, on a road car thats mildly tuned i doubt most people would notice the differences tbh.

Regarding heat wrap - it helps reduce engine bay temps, and increase gas speed inside the piping.

heat wrap looks a hell off a lot better in the engine bay aswell

Ok, thanks for the help guys, I think that I am now going to go for a 4-2-1 due to most people saying they are better for mid range torque unlike a 4-1 which seem to be more beneficial at the top end i.e cammed engines etc.

If anyone knows someone selling a 4-2-1 for a vts, feel free to let me know!:y:
