... im going to get a full system for my car soon, but i was thinking might aswell go one better, how much difference does a DE-CAT make ? and on my VTR 51 plate phase 2 (long lol) is the cat in the manifold as i'v read here and there a few times? .... anyway will it make a performance difference or just louder noise ? im more into performance than noise btw. Cheers guys. smileys/smiley14.gif

Yeah the cat is in the manifold mate, you will have to replace the manifold to remove the cat. I know GMC do a good 4-1 one for about £200 and it should give you more horses. Don’t expect miracles though.

so if i get a cat-back system, that means i only have to replace the manifold for a de-cat ? the cat-back system i'd get would be all the way connecting to the manifold ?

yeh, thats true mate the cat on your model is in the down pipe like mine smileys/smiley13.gif there fore you have to replace the whole manifold which means changing it back come mot!

ive also heard it messes up idle when you do the swap!?

anyone done it on a phase2 vtr with cat in downpipe???

surely you can just get a decat pipe for the mk2 with the cat under the car & have the zorst system desined so you can just bolt on & off caome mot time....

the cat isnt under the car though

i think he means buy a 4-1 manifold to replace the original (where cat used to live),then buy a full system with a de-cat pipe and then swap the pipe for a cat when the mot's due, so then the cat would be under the car?!?

that would work if you brought a system for an early model unless the mounting are different

Decat manifold and put a mk1 exhaust system on you mean

the cat isnt under the car though

add a fanimold, then construct the exhaust so the cat is under the car as in the MK1 & early MK2, then add a decat pipe so you can easily pop the pussy back in come MOT time.smileys/smiley14.gif

Thats y they call it a customised exhaust system! smileys/smiley2.gif speak to powerflow see what they can do, if your a southener speak to Malcolm at Southampton Tire & Wheel in totton.....

Surely most of these custom exhaust palces could make you a custom downpipe you could swap out?

riggsy

nah i already have a custom system, so to decat mine i need a manifold nothing else!

i'v been looking at many many different exhaust systems so my saxo, here are a few that im considering:-

1) magnex full s/s systems (i wonder why the 98bhp version is more expensive than the rest even costs more than the vts! version)

2) Cybox full s/s system (on eBay) look well nice, cheapest of the bunch so far and sounds promising

3) Mongoos full s/s system, how comes no-ones got one of these here ?

all are so called "cat-back"

Im not fussed about mot, i can get that passed, but it seems like im going to have to spend double just for a cat-back system. *sigh*

for a custom system fitted your looking at around £300 mate!!

yeah i know mate, i'v got a BMC centre just down the road, they are official POWERFLOW blokes etc, lol, im not looking for a custom system unless theres power gains, not after pure sound (altough important) looking at performance.

cat back systems are just the exhaust system from after the cat to the backbox mate it replaces everything rear of the cat pipe

98 bhp vtr magnex systems probally cost more because there is more pipe work to replace because the cat is in the downpipe

i have a custom jamsport system and it has performance gains! smileys/smiley16.gif

so cat-back leaves the cat in place?
therefore not failing MOT?

The cat is not in the manifould, The only thing in the manifould are de restrictor brackets, All you need is the cat back, put a 2.5 free flow straight pipe to your back box and the car will run and sound sweet.
cheers.
