I was reading over a thread on cliosport.net the other day and came across this http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=445339 if you read this thread on cliosport (you cant if you dont have an acount) you will see that the figures that they found were done on a dyno run (pretty accurate no figures pulled out the air). So aparently the saxos standard filter kits are very poor and more or less any upgrade you do to your induction system will give your saxo decent gains.. A saxo VTS saw an increase of 10bhp at the flywheel. Maybe peoples estimates of induction kits are wrong for the saxo generation? Im going to upgrading mine after reading this!

Sorry i didnt really write that very well but you get what im trying to say lol :)

The 16v lumps in the Saxos do take well to breathing mods, 10bhp might be a bit optimistic from just a filter, but a filter and decent exhaust system often lets them see 130-135bhp (sometimes 140bhp), obviously how reliable them results are depends on the dyno, as 2 different dynos can give 2 different readings on the same car.

But, no one denies that the 16v Saxo lump takes well to breathing mods...

still all bit of bullshit if you ask me an induction kit will only give good gains on a high tuned engine and if its an open filter you are still sucking in more hot hair i got one on mine vts and want to go back to a standerd setup with a panal filter

I just get all excited becasue they were actual results from a dyno run. Maybe i was wrong lol :P but this must meen that standard induction kits are pretty poor

I bought an induction kit for my 1.4i furio, sold it the next day, nothing but too much noise! Lol

Just induction = no way.

Good manifold, exhuast and induction kit = Possible

Decat, good manifold, exhaust, induction = Quite likely

Hmmm, the filter that was on the car before the '10Bhp' increase must have been blocked solid or there was a problem with the inlet system somewhere along the line.

You'd probably get about 10Bhp from a manifold, de-cat, exhaust and panel filter.

When you modifi the airbox it gives an other sound note, not that chavy you guys would maybe say

The airbox gives less torque than the o/e box, but on higher revs it feels like giving some minimal micro boost. But mostly sound which let you think about increasing maybe 10 hp more.

bear in mind the condition of the original air filter/ducting at the time, was it clogged with shite, when had the filter last been changed etc etc.. might have gained 10hp just putting a new filter in it lol

just read finchowned post.. similar to mine, also very true lol

What airbox?

The Raceland/Simota induction airbox.

The Raceland/Simota induction airbox.

Ohh, yes i have heard it does help at higher revs :)

I don't know how it handles with the torque on the o/e airbox on a VTR?

Also keeping any car well serviced will keep your bhp stable as said you don`t know the condition of the original air filter good bhp gains cost money I would say its dubious that you`ll see an increase of 10bhp just from fitting an induction kit.

so what you are saying is car makers loose power on purpose by fitting poorly designed filtration systems .--
no don,t think so .
do other mods to engine so it needs more air and there is a point where the std unit will measurably reduce power .
dead simple test --from standing start on road you know with good clean std air filter fitted go through gears to a makred point on road ,note speed .
then do the same but just disconnect the air filter and see difference in terminal speed
you will have your answer
