I currently run a quiafe lsd and was wondering what the weakest point of the box is as am building a big power lump and want it to be reliable and don,t mind spending a reasonable amount to do this.

the diff is most probably weakest point mate, but if you want a gearbox conversion(what sort of power you hoping to run) mate and you have the money go for a be3 gearbox, think it is one of the only boxes that can stand the power

the bearings and casing on the ma series are the weakpoints, the casing flexs and things come loose, and the bearings are not up to lots of power, ie 200+at the wheels.

no, custom driveshafts and bell housing needed, not sure what else but those are the main ones.

the cheapest place i have found for a be3 is tms motorsport in leeds, they cost £3200 fitted, but be warned that the speedo will not work, you gotta find someone to get the speedo to work

I think its a ma gearbox with uprated bearings, shot peened gear set and quife lsd .they are currently running it in there 300 bhp ax with no problems .

oh yes i have seen it,its not been in long mate,so lets see how long it lasts,i asked the owner of the car why he did not go be3 and his reply was cash.i dont think a car has had that much power on the standard gearbox yet so it will be interesting to see how long it lasts smileys/smiley17.gif

Spoke to TMS today they want £3200 for the box as you said but also want £1500 for the mounts needed and the drive shafts.the shafts retail at £700 each and all prices didn,t include fitting or vat.No way am i spending that much on a box.Theres got to be a box from another citoren or pug that will fit with a bit of moding that will take the grunt.

I agree with you that there should be something cheaper or another box you can mod. The only prob is that there is not so a dog box is the way to go or keep rebuilding your box every time it breaks. (which is cheaper) Once you have done it once it gets easyer.

Whats involved in changing the diff each time from gear box to gearbox .Theres no way i could use the car on the track without it.

ha ha floppy us charged lads have been waiting years for a cheap gearbox replacement, the fact is it doesnt exist, didnt cost me anywhere near that but did most of it myself, there is no ma gearbox that will take large power, and to change diffs on ma boxes its a complete gearbox apart, where as on the be3/4/5 its 4 bolts smileys/smiley4.gif

4 bolts is that it smileys/smiley13.gif .give tms another ring and ask them for the kit that they supply to gmc motorsport, that includes shafts and everything.thats what they told me with everything and fitting £3200.
