Pretty sure VTR alternator is different to VTS/GTi 16v motors

mk1's have different connectors to the mk2's so make sure, its either a ring connector or plug in. as long as you have the same type it will work

They are different, theres serpentine style routing of the aux belt on the gti/vts engines, compared to the corkscrew on the rest...
same alternator from a normal xsara which I got for £15 down scrappies..
if your totally unsure, take the alternator off, go scrappies and say "i need one of these lawl" but make sure you get same voltages/ampage
EDIT: They look different due to patenting of the design between the valeo and the bosch ones

Bump. I was trying to search online for an effective serpentine belt routing (http://www.drivewire.com/part/drive-belts/serpentine-belt/), and I ended up in this thread. I was just curious as how to do this on gti/vts engines. Thanks!
