Box with a lower FD (final drive).

on a budget; 1.1 box for 20-30 quid.

Hell of a difference imo.

A 4-2-1 will help also.

Or you could go crazy, and put a raylle head and inlet on, run a raylle ecu/loom. Would give you the 7800 rev limit on a 8v.

Depends if your capable of taking your cylinder head off, And replacing it?

Gasket set, headbolts etc..

Or stick a ph3 cam in your current head, and fit a raylle inlet.. Still means head off and gasket set etc.

But tbh, i have a vtr with a 4-2-1, and s/s centre.. With a 1.1 box and cold air feed and a panel filter.

And it's enough to put a grin on my face. Even after owning a 200bhp turbo..

Oh yeah, and still get 35-45mpg dependent on driving style.

Yeah that's the inlet. 3xbigger than the vtr's, And its Ally so more of a induction roar.

Put ya foot further down on the throttle.

Gearbox essentialy though.

my dad might know what hes doing with that stuff. with ph3 cams am i right you dont need ecu re done

you don't need a remap no..

Still works out as 300 to get the cam changed, if you do it yourself tho..

ph3 cams aint gonna make a huge difference.

Sort your gearing out, tyres, breathings mods then look at cams and engine work.

Andys_VTR

so next a smaller gearbox?

so next a smaller gearbox?

Definatly gearbox.

The VTR comes with the longest box in the range.

All round box would be a VTS.

Depends how far you want to go with accelaration taking into account mpg or what your after doing such as quarter miles. Some of the shorter boxes will be worse on the wuarter mile as your losing time with an extra gearchange.

Other boxes which are short than the VTS longest to shortest:

VTS
1.6xsi/S2 rallye
1.4 xsi
1.3Rallye

Think thats it...

Tyres will help with accelaration and obviously the circumference.

Loosing weight will improve accelaration and MPG aswell.

After gearing id look at breathing mods..Exhaust Manifold, decent induction kit with cold air feed or panal filter with a good air feed, also the exhaust system.

After that, 1.3 rallye inlet and i THINK they only fit on the early silver top VTR's with the port spacings or somthing. If your using the standard inlet then get the early early black top head and put that onto a mk2 silvertop bottom end. Can change the heads for a 1.4 xsi, or rallye. Possibly change cams on a black top head with a remap. 1.3 Rallye cams are similar to uprated ones as it is IRC.

Thats all breif, someone else can go into more details or correct anything..

You do if you want it to idle and run right :S

Without a map it won't make the power that it could, won't idle correctly and the fueling etc will be off. Never heard of anyone running it without a map permanently.

more grip/controll/handeling will make the car faster than more power every time

wat would happen putting a 1.4 head on a vtr bottom end?

im running my ph3s un mapped perminantly and the idle and running of the car is spot on. if its timed up on the rolling road correctly then it'll run fine unmapped

Strip it out but don't tell anyone on here, most will just tell you how much of a cock you are doing it. Mines stripped out and you def notice a slight difference.

Never heard of anyone doing it that way and it running normal

Gotta say toyo tires are awesome.
I took my back seats, and sub out of my vtr and you would not believe the difference, when I put it all back in the car and went for a drive, I thought engine had broken.
Can't live without sub though!!!!
