1.1 Gearbox on a VTS

Can 1.1 gearboxes handle the torque of a VTS?

What makes them go bang? Too many launches?

Also whats the ratios like compared to VTS gearboxes?

Im not 100% but im sure i once read that the diff in a 1.1 box is smaller than a vts box which makes them weaker??????????

As said i may be wrong...would be interested to hear other peoples opinions.

The diff is smaller, but they do work.

They're shorter than VTS boxes (probably the next shortest box from them), and don't run the 'sports' gearset, but they do work well IMO.

I've had a couple of 1.1 boxes on my turbo VTS and they've lasted just as long as the vts boxes Ive had.

So the FD is either 4.26 or 3.79, with only one kind being the latter.


And IMO, the 1.1 box is between the VTS and the 1.6 Rallye box.

Also interesting that the first VTR boxes had the same FD as 1.1 boxes, strange as that's the box that was originally on my car and it was terrible.

That can't be right surely! My P reg vtr's box has a horribly long FD, bought it completely standard and was owned by a woman for 10 years before me, so very much doubt she changed the box :detective:

i have a 1.1 box on my vts.Its awesome imo 1st,2nd,3rd are nice and close,forth revs out to 115 ish and 5th is good for 130+..Brilliant gearbox..

Kitney can you really get that sort of speed out of a 1.1 in 5th gear on a vts? I may have to invest in a 1.1 box when i get another vtr or vts.

135 ish..and thats at about 7200rpm iircc,on a private runway
