Check that out mate, from the FAQ sticky at the top of the page :y:

i wouldnt waste that £100 on a 1.1 desire tbh. Chasing performance out of a 1.1 is a waste of time and money.

You'd see a bigger performance increase if you spent that £100 on mothers day.

No problem bud, should always check out the stickies. I've learnt so much from reading through them all. :)

Lmao, this is true. Everyone to there own but if i had a 1.1 I'd spend the time and money on getting it looking smart, so that when I came to upgrade to a bigger engine I could transfer all my interior parts over and jobs a gooden :y:

Maybe she didnt have the money? and to be honest you would get a bigger sense of achievement out of it i mean a 1.1 that can beat a VTS F*** me. A VTS that can beat.. something else on the saxo range..?

I was looking at this one?

Whats your views on it? CLICK ME (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAXO-1.1L-99-04-MPI-AIR-FILTER-INDUCTION-INTAKE-KIT_W0QQitemZ260562453743QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=41b28b2d1270a0aad4c78817fecb3da6)

Im going to replace the blue tube and air filter over time but i think it will be alright for my first try at modding the engine?

Shit. Get an uprated panel filter and better cold air feed. Cheap and best power gains.

Get a k&n panel filter from where ever you can find it cheapest then get some cold air feed like this:

If I remember correctly he has a vts turbo already, he just built the 1.1 for a laugh.
Anyway, I hear the raceland kit is a good trade off between sound and performance if your on a budget. Personally I run a green rammel filter with a cold air feed and it seems good for the money, dont expect much from a air filter though.

Dont worry im not. I'm still pretty much in learning stages about the parts of the engine tbh and ive just been reading up on performance and economy and Air filters were my first step haha.

I heard the Racelands were hard to fit though which is why im trying to avoid it? Haha

I was looking at Green Cotton single filters but i dont know which cold air feed to go with? GOt any experience with some?

Iv'e never used any raceland stuff, but from what I hear their quality control is shocking, but im sure you could fit it with a bit of cutting :) tbh all cold air feeds are pretty much the same, I should think the standard one would do the job perfectly well. If your after a induction roar id steer clear of pannel filters though, there silent lol

Haha yerr i read somewhere that panel filters are a bit silent.

God why is this so hard? Haha What filters have you used in the past and liked?

I haven't been working on cars for long mate, iv'e used a green pannel filter and a k@n open cone. Green one seemed better, but tbh the difference between standard is hardly noticeable on its own. Tbh with a 1.1 lump id be more interested in the induction sound, which would be better from a open cone.

Its pretty much just a bit of pipe mate, if your on a budget just use the standard one, if you want something pretty get a nice coloured one (pipercross or something) and route it from behind the headlight or from the slam pannel. A few people on here have modified one of their foglights to use as a air fitlter, but you run te risk of sucking up puddles and stuff. also you could mount a filter near the front of the bay away from Hot stuff and run piping across the bay. Just a few ideas :)

Yer i was wanting my filter at the front which is why i suggested this Click Me (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAXO-1.1L-99-04-MPI-AIR-FILTER-INDUCTION-INTAKE-KIT_W0QQitemZ260562453743QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=41b28b2d1270a0aad4c78817fecb3da6)?

I thought it would of been alright then over time i can change that filter for a Green Cotton filter :) other otherwise?

by the looks of it it would sit right next to the engine block, the heat soak would be epic. You could use some extra piping to relocate it down by the battery tray, but then things start to get quite complicated and expensive. If your not bothered about how it looks your best off with a pannel filter with the standard airbox and cold air feed.

Lots of people may go for the K&N, but I have a standard zorst system on my MK1 VTR with a K&N induction kit and the noise coming from it when you put your foot down a bit is quality, so id recommend them!

if your on a budget derestrict the standard air box, uprated panel filter and ducting to where the passenger fog light normally sits.

if your flush then BMC CDA is the best. carbon exterior which reduces radiation of heat from the engine to the air filter compared to plastic which is not as good and causes a low level of volumetric efficiency.

you could easily buy a vtr engine for 100

as said, if you want perfomance just get a bigger engine. but if u want a good sound then a nice little open cone filter is a good step in the right direction.
