hey all.. 1st real post here.
just put a deposit down on a 106 gti engine (which im lead to believe is the same as a vts lump)
ive read the write ups on fitting it and can do the fitting myself
a question ive got is the 106gti has a chipped keyfob (but no key) and transponder.
will i need to change my barrel.. or can i tuck the fob and transponder up behind the dash together and still use my saxo key (as it works locks and igniton and fuel cap)
the engine was £250 inc ECU, Loom, chipped Fob, transponder and immobilisor keypad.
will i need to use the 106 gti code to start the car on my keypad?
im ok with mechanical issued, clutches, gearboxes etc.. but electrical, im crap!
thanks

Ideally you'll need the ecu unlocked - this will mean that you can keep your keys/barrel etc but the engine will work fine
you can do this by having the engine running (in the old car) an unplugging the black immobiliser box up under the passenger side dashboard or around under the steering column. Once you've unplugged this with the engine running the ecu is unlocked. You'll need to unplug the black box on your car before plugging the gti ecu in so that it remains unlocked and the engine works.
Or you can get a company to unlock the ecu for you - bluehawk electronics do it or pm ryanmt on here - you'll still need to unplug the balck immobiliser box before plugging the ecu in, but is just a way around it if the engine is already out of the donor car

the chip is in the key mate, not the fob. so your still gunna need to get your ecu uinlocked.

Need it unlocking
also do you realise the engine loom is different and you'll either need a saxo loom or to hard wire the multi plug

so very true...:y: much better off with vts engine less hassle

thanks. i wasnt aware of any loom differences.. but the engine loom ecu is a bargain.
the engine wont start because there is no gearbox oin the donor car.
looks like ill have to get it unlocked

Yea the loom is different I put a saxo motor in a 106 and had to use a 106 gti loom

so when you say hardwiring? what do you mean.
what needs doing up?
would a saxo vts loom fit the 106 gti engine?
theres one on ebay.
i presume so long as the saxo wiring loom is a single plug ecu type, then it will fit?
the donor vehicle has no gearbox on it, so i cant start it. will i therefore need to send my ecu to blackhawk to get it unlocked?
just gathering up the information at the moment

saxo loom will fit a gti engine, may need a few new sensors but nothing major. £15's worth really.
Or you cut the plugs off the car loom and the gti loom and solder every wire together in the correct order

The looms are the same but the multiplug that goes to the dash is different to the 106. So youll either need a vts loom or to cut the connector off your old engine loom and solder it onto the 106 loom.
Also with swapping looms they changed the shape of hte connector on the map sensor/crank sensor/alternator/reverse switch over the years so you may end up needing to swap a few over, or cut the connectors off the 106 loom if you dont intend to sell it.
Also the 106gti engine didn't come with an oil to water cooler where as the vts did
You wont have had a chip in the ecu since its got the keypad.
I can unlock the ecu for you, you don't need to worry about the immobilizer box either it cannot be relocked once its done.

where does the oil/water cooler get plumbed into?

the oil and the water :P:P:P:P
Goes inbetween the block and the oil filter then the top hose has a takeoff to send water round the housing.
