hi. i have just had a new oil drain made for my turbo but the hose is touching my exhaust on the down pipe.

i was thinking if i heat wraped my down pipe past the samco would it still burn it? i could do it thick where the samco is but will it reduce the out side heat enough. the hose is made to take hot oil so its proberly heat resistant to a extent...

cheers

Id not risk it!
Oil plus hot manifold=fire

Big fuckin fire.

Get a few metal cable ties and get it away from the heat. If you heat wrap it, I would always suggest otherwise on turbo'd cars as the wrap will absorb any hot oil and it will instantly ignite then you wont be able to put the fire out, make sure you paint and seal the wrap. But wrap alone won't be enough. Also the abrasion on the pipe may cause it to pop as your engine moves alot under normal driving conditions.

i will have to get a pic of this tomorrow. the samco is short and touches the exhaust. its a oil drain pipe so no pressure in it i dont think.. if i arch it up over the exhaust wont it block up and basicly drown my turbo?

what do yo mean by paint and seal?

The oil drain isn't pressurized, the oil will just keep circulating in the turbo if the drain has any back pressure. Which could end up overheating and seizing the turbo.

A good way to stop it from touching is to cover it with a nice long chunky spring. But id be seriously paranoid about it getting anywhere near an exhaust that wont be far from glowing after a little play with the loud pedal.

If you heat wrap; You can get a high temp silicone paint for heat wrap that seals it.

is this a DP manifold?

ok what i will do is heat wrap it 2moro then get hold of some of that high temp silicone paint, paint it wth that then use something to hold it away from the exhaust a tiny bit so its not touching but not to much so it creates a massive arch?? :y:

I have not seen aturbo manifold yet where oil return pipe clearance is not very tight and a issue which must be carefully addressed.
the correct solution is to use a banjo with a length of pipe brazed /welded to it ,which is bent vorrectly and only uses a small length of rubber to join to sump.
so that means then that none of the leading kits have addressed what is a very simple but important pproblem .
other favorite heat problem is frying the seals in the dipstick tube and crank case breather pipes.
pay attenetion to detail --do not skimp on this part of the build ---it will come back to haunt you later

yea i know, i have a custom exhaust off the turbo and my oil drain on the sump is in the middle. what i will have to do is use a pipe over the exhaust and join it with the silicone hose at each end. i will still wrap and seal the exhaust aswell to be on the safe side :y:

will lift it a tiny bit aswell to make sure its not touching
