I have a 1999 106 gti engine with loom ecu etc was wondering what i need to complete the conversion so it reliable and works!

I've figured i need

*Cat converter as will be getting a supersprint system
*Rad top hose (any ideas on where to get and cost)

Anything else i need?
Also when it comes to buying bits like the exhaust what do i buy it for? A mk1 VTS?

I appreciate many may have made posts like this previously but not all were the same.

So what would i need?

Engine
ECU
Clocks
Loom
Gearbox

and all the other stuff for an engine conversion but mainly getting an engine with loom and ecu as I think the loom require some mods but not too sure

106 gti loom won't fit - need a 3 plug vts loom

Why won't it fit? I don't know to much about engines but i assumed that if i have the gti ecu loom and engine they are all designed to work together?

Surely i won't need new clocks?

I do however need a gti/vts gearbox

The loom plug that goes from the engine to car loom doesn't plug straight into the car loom - whereas the 3 plug vts loom would.

You'll need a 3 plug unlocked Ecu to run the vts loom without having ot mess about with immobiliser stuff.

Yes I'd fit a vts box

You'll need the following too:

- top radiator hose
- new throttle cable
- vts fans ideally (but not a big problem)
- vts exhaust manifold

The early GTi engines are single plug

yes, plus vts top engine mount (the bridge that goes from engine to the rubber mount itself.

make sure the Ecu is unlocked too.

can use your standard fan, but might be easier to get the vts fan to match the loom depending on if the vts fan wiring is in the engine loom or car loom

What a bloody mission getting hold of that lot. Gonna be expensive too aye

yeh, best to try and find a rear ended mk2 3 plug vts and take a lot of the bits out the front of it

you'll need a fuel return pipe plumbed in too

and if your gunna try and make you single plug engine run on 3 plug loom you will either need to change some sensors or cut the plugs off the single plug loom and wire them onto your 3 plug loom

106 gti loom won't fit - need a 3 plug vts loom

Would you be able to use a gti ecu, on a vts loom?

yes, I did with mine initially and worked spot on - it was unlocked

yea if you buy an engine from a different model/year as your own its gonna be expensive i got all my bits from a mk1 vts so everything was plug and play with me, just a couple things tho, i used the vtr engine mount and bridge not a vts one and it worked fine, also generally speaking you dont need a vts box i have a 1.1 box on mine and my god does it accelerate fast lol but yea its not as reliable as a vts box, go for a vts box if you want a reliable car lol also make sure to unplug the immobiliser BEFORE you plug the ecu in, i forgot to do this and i ended up locking my unlocked ecu grrrr:wall: luckily my mate had one lying around that i could use but it still means i need to repay him with an unlocked ecu at somepoint which is about £65 to get it unlocked

sell the engine. buy a 3 plug vts engine which will come with all the bits you need. much easier, i know from personal experience

did you grind some of the vtr mount? as they dont fit properly unless you do. they also only have 3 bolt holes, a vts 1 has 4.

i unscrewed the whole block off my vtr engine and bolted it on to my vts engine so i didnt have to grind anything :D

ah right, thought you meant you just used the mount.

yer sorry should have explained it better :y: i dont know why people bother buying vts engine mounts when you can just do what i did, are they any safer?
