I have a 98 s reg vts and when the car it at idle it is fine but when you apply revs or driving there is a loud vibration / engine noise. I have tried to check the engine mounts and there doesnt seem to be any movement. Is there any other known faults this maybe? Driving me nuts!:wall:

Its hard to sort this kind of stuff over the forum but it could be a stuck lifter. Which has a hollow tappy noise and rises when you rev it. This will still be noticeable at idle but you might need to pop the bonnet to be able to hear it.
It could be a dud engine mount, get someone to rev the car whilst you watch the engine and put it in gear with the handbrake on and gently lift the clutch to biting point. If the engine jerks violently or moves all over its probably gone. The standard mounts let the engine move quite freely but they keep the movements dampened so you'll notice if ones gone. There pretty easy to change or check anyway just get a jack or crane to keep the engine steady.
It could be the centre section coming loose from the manifold or hitting the heatsheild.
My Gf's cam cover was hitting the cam pulley and making a bit of a racket so might be worth checking for anything thats cracked or come loose.
Does it still do it when the engine & gearbox oil is fully warmed up, say after a 20 minute drive?

do you know if the noise is coming from inside the engine block or from outside??
