yeh, the linear power of a supercharger, with the extra power that boost brings

Nothing! A saxo is out of place on every circuit when it comes to power. Even after spending £0000's.
Get the car handling using the best parts and sharpen up your driving skills. You only need big power for getting back the speed you lost from poor cornering.

I do love how 90% of people who will reply to this thread haven't got a clue

turbo! or s/c
there is a reason cars with boost are in higher classes than n/a cars...

Id say pushing a tuned evo 5 down the straight in the wet at brands says otherwise.
Tams AX pulling away from his mates tuned scoobys on track etc... again.
On power circuits theres a reason why you need to have the power, silverstone for example ;)

yer but even 200bhp in a lightweight saxo is still slow at silverstone.
I've kept up with lots and lots of big cars with 130bhp and a well setup chassis.

You dont need power necessarily. Graeme used to trackday our 205 with a 75bhp 1.4 rally engine. It had about £3.5k of suspension and tyres and it never got overtaken by some big power 4wd cars including scoobies and vauxhalls at silverstone. A Evo powered colt did fly by like a ramjet was attached though lol. Lightweight and better grip meant cornering speeds were massively different.
Which is better - turbo or throttlebodies - the most well rounded car overall will be faster - maybe the car with slicks :D.
If you obsess about power you will miss the bigger picture.

against what? Most trackday cars, 7s, chavs in JC etc.. Ill happily sit on and pass, the only time ive had something majorly fly by me was when a 911 cup car was being tested on the same day.
Ive been on track with 90bhp and even though quicker than some of the stuff there because I didnt have the grunt in the straights the twats wouldnt let you pass.
My car doesnt just have a big engine and crap suspension though ;)

its common sense really,
a well setup car with standardish power (130bhp) VS a well setup car with extensive mods (185bhp) the answer will always be the same depending on driver....
i think a boosted car will be quicker on trackdays as you will have more power AND torque at pretty much most of the rev range.

Dude i am fully aware of your history and setup etc I'm not putting it down in anyway, if that's what your thinking.
I've kept with m3's various kit cars running bike engines including r6 turbo Westfield, various chavs in all manor of cars. fiddled s2000's, Elise's, couple exige's. 172's,182's,197's.
I've out driven pretty much everything.
I was even 2seconds a lap faster than a guy in a Lister Storm. (He was a total novice I'm guessing)
Most people can't drive properly so it's pointless them spending money on power anyways

depends on the size of the turbo though lol....
Id still go supercharged if going boost mind

Most people on here spend the money for a track car which will only see maccy Ds.
my point was more aimed at the inital post saying that a saxo is out of place on every circuit when it comes to power, which imo was a bit of a sweeping statment and not entirely correct.
I do agree though that alot of people spend fuck loads on engines stressing about 1-2bhp here, changing parts all the time and there putting it on different rollers for map tweeks etc.. when they dont have decent suspension, cage, seats, understanding of racing lines etc..

true but its hoarses for coarses...
at the end of the day its down to budget.
when a question like this OP is asked you have to forget driver talent, as a shit driver in a fast car will be faster than a shit driver in a slow car....
although i agree, driver training is a better investment than most engine upgrades

The things most people forget if your talking track days its all about fun and nothing to do with how fast your going. People turn in old bangers that run at snail pace all the time and have great fun. A track day is not about how fast you go. Its about having fun pushing your car and your self. This is why most racers take the piss out of track day drivers that get all excited about how they over took this or where faster than that. If you wish to actually race then go do it! Cheap way is karts and many will agree its way more fun than track days. But if it must be a car then try sprints or hill climbs. There both great fun and you don't even require a race licence as such. Or if you have the time and cash go get your self a race licence and do some proper racing ;)
But on the flip side if you are like me in you enjoy modifying cars in general then go do it. If you have a track day car you wish to mod go for it :) Out of the turbo and throttle bodies I would pick throttle bodies. But as people have said supercharger is probably the best way to go if your trying to make a Saxo fast as a track day toy.

I agree with mosat of what has been said --get it cornering and braking first --then go for power, however if you want a challenge try driving a hig powered car with crap suspension and brakes --that will keep you sweating.
If going t/b,s --then you need a c/r gear kit to get the best from it -as you ain,t got the grunt to play with the big stuff --if you are not getting to rev limtewr in 5th on longest straight you are over geared--touring cars for mosr tracks are only geared for 140 @rev limter in top gear,so if they need low gearing to get the best from 300bhp --you work it out

Yer i agree tbh, i was wrong to make such a sweeping statement. Although i do still stick to that in most cases a saxo will never be powerful enough.
Even in a 340bhp evo i was still bored at silverstone, snetterton and bedford.

get yourself to some of themore technical tracks then --then you won,t have time to be bored.
knockhil is only just ober a mile and if i remeber correctly it was around 13gear changes per lap with the c/r box,and that was a 5 speed --reckon when i fianlly get the car going owth the 6 speed squential it will be more like 19 shifts per lap in 1.3 miles
