Right, im making sure i get the right ecu loom and engine for my car, its a 90 bhp mk1 engine in a mk2 saxo. As the ecu is single plug and i have a large connecting plug behind light is it possible to get a loom from a same reg saxo vts/gti, eg, w reg, but wire it to any year single plug ecu vts/gti engine? If not is it 100% that a W reg vts/gti loom and engine will fit? Cheers for any help guys and gals.

Anyone?

Buddy this is the same situation that I am in, I cant honestly say it will work, but I have a feeling that their is no reason why it shouldnt.

Yeah, its just alot easier if i cud pik up any single plug engine now then rebuild it and get the loom when i need to put it in.

The problem is that I got a 2001 (ODB2) Pug 106, which has a 2003 (ODB2) Saxo VTR engine in it, I am trying to fit a Peugeot 106 GTI (EODB(1)) Single Plug ECU into it.

My issue is, if i plug it into the plug under the passenger headlight, will it be correct.

Now I have seen a MK2 (ODB2) 3 plug ecu car, with a single plug ecu conversion in it, that fires up and works fine with an older engine and loom, and the clocks work the lot...

So does anyone know if this will actually work?

simply? no. some things will need changing, i think however all it is is the coilpack but there could be more im forgetting right now. bette rto get the correct engine and loom as one so you know everything works.

What might be worth doing, is buying any 16v engine and rebuilding it.

Then when you buy the loom and Ecu, just make sure the sensors match up, if not then buy sensors to match the loom.

Can get around the diff coilpack by making the connector fit and swapping the two outer wires over

Well im more than happy to get the engine, loom and ecu from same car, plenty of them in the scrapyard :) but the biggest problem i see is getting the loom connectors to fit behind the headlight. As i have a single plug ecu with a large loom plug im under the influence that it was only done like that on v and w reg saxo's. So would it be worth tryin to find one in them years? Cheers again!

Just out of curosity why does it matter what plug ecu i get? As i'm changing the loom couldn't i just get the mk2 vts engine 3 plug ecu with larger loom plug that will fit behind the headlight?

With the bigger multiplug I'm 90% sure you can put a 3 plug vts motor in it
the changeover year cars are a pain to do conversions on tbh but just get the loom to match your interior loom not the ecu like

there are changeover vts looms but there rare

so the change over year is the hardest one to mess about with??
ive got a 2000 furio with the large single plug that runs down the whole ECU so iam guna have to mess about to do either engines?

Don't look at the ecu
it's irrelevent in changovers
look at the multiplug behind the passenger headlight
there are 2 types and you should have the lager so a 3 plug ecu would be an easier fit

aaa iam with you on... i always thought the 3 plug 1 plug was the ecu

AlexB

it is on the ecu man
but the main loom plugs differ too

so basically you want a 3 plug even though your car is a single like

Lol! How many times can a thread get hijacked! To be honest i dont mind because it seems like im not the only person with troubles! I shall set about my ways finding a 3 plug ecu'd vts engine, making sure i get engine, loom and ecu all from same car, just out of curiosity how much of the loom can i attach to the engine before fitting the engine to the chassis? You've been a great help AlexB, cheers!

After reading this thread a couple of times, I am still yet to find someone who actually knows what they are talking about, and can give me a 100% straight answer.

Can you put a R reg GTI engine into a Pug 106 1.1 "Y" car without changing the interior loom?

Deano_Blad

Nope, Your Y reg car will have a bigger loom plug behind the passenger side front light and the older R reg engine will have a smaller loom plug to connect to it. Unless you use the conversion kit you mentioned but i have not come across this. Also depends if you are competent enough to splice two looms together to make it work.

Thank you, thats exactly the answer I was looking for.

Does anyone know if you can get these "conversion" looms that would adapt the loom or is it simply the case of changing everything over?

you could get a loom made
i have one for my saxo but there not easy to get sorted

or you can buy the loom ecu and sensors ect to swap it all like i did in my old gti to put a later motor in it

noooooo for a straight swap its important to get the right one. if you put a 3 plug in most of the wires on the multiplug dont match with the car loom. physically it will plug in and the engine will start but none of your dials and half of your lights wont work.
on 3 plug the cooling fan works off the ecu, on single plug it works from a sensor in the radiator so you'll have eml on because youre ecu will think theres no fan connected etc.

personal experience btw. i put an engine in my 3 plug vtr, it had single plug ecu but big multiplug. in the end it was easier to convert the engine to 3 plug, so i did.
