gearbox rattle

Hi picked my new saxo up and the gears are hard to select 1st and 2nd and if you rattle the gearstick in neutrul it sort of bangs agaist the side could this be a new clutch or gearbox for linkage i would be about to do the work myself just wanted you opinons thanks btw is a vtr

what would i be looking for if it was the gearlinkages would they just be loose

is broken, it bolts to the bulkhead, behind the engine. Really common for the plastic ball to fall off due to old age, happened to mine a couple of weeks ago, and i had banging when moving the gearstick left and right. 100% sure thats your problem :y:

Before you go buy anything, take a picture from under the car of the gear linkages and the nipples they're attached too.

I have Group N linkages on mine now, and have excess play in the gear stick when in gear, but have never missed a gear change to date, I still think mine aren't attached to the correct nipples as there are 2 of them on the same plate.

a friend had the same problem on his 1.1, tightened the linkages and it was fine :)

Yeah I have lots of play in the stick when in gear, might just try and get the linkages tightened then! :y:

1. Right looked at it and the linkages are loosish but not too bad and the rubber ball is still on the linkage that attaches to the bulk head.
It seems the noise is coming from the gear stick banging on something would I have to take the exhaust off and then the heat shield to do this? And when I rev passed 3k on standstill it makes a terrible noise and but it stops if I hold the gearstick. Like it rattling against something

2. also hit a few pot holes and now there is a slight knocking coming from the passenger side it happen mostly when the car is braking or going over humps sounds like something is loose and banging against something when the car is braking.

3. Also the there is a wiering noise when the clutch is depressed but when you press the clutch in it stops to me this is the clutch release bearing.
