Just finished fitting a bottom radiator hose which was a pain to do started up the car put it into reverse and all i hear is a big bang. Jack the car up and look underneath and the big arm from the gear lever to just before the engine block has come off the ball joint.
What exactly is broken and how much am I looking at to get it fixed?

the ball thing sits on a bracket and the bar as you put it from the gear stick slips over it, some times the ball comes off and you need to replace that bracket, any saxo bracket will fit, ive had it on my previous vts and now tomorrow im of to scrappi to get another as my current vts has just lost its ball joint, if yours hasnt lost its ball you should be able to slip it back on
if it doesnt make sense give me your email and ill email you a drawing of what i mean

yeh it's just the bracket then, i put the ball back in but it was just coming back out again so looks like it's just a new bracket I need then.
New it'd be simple but didn't really know what exactly it was that needed replacing.
Cheers mate

Theyre meant to be easy to come off theyre held on with 2 10 or 13mms but theyre a cunt to get off, aparently they sumtimes snap, but mine are just spinning.
Luckily got a ball to slide on though.

What did you change, the ball or the whole unit? Easy enough to do?

whole unit
on a vtr and vts theres a metal bar that needs one side of it undoing with a 16mm socket and loosen the other side so you can slide the unit from behind
13mm with extension bar worked easy to undo the 2 13mm nuts
i dont have mud guards so was simple you'll need to remove yours if they arnt already done so

Ahh, yeh i tried the whole unit undoing the 13mm's and they just spun! That metal bar i think its the support one.
Ive got a replacment ball to fit on, so hopefully wont be so hard altough i heard it can be :n:

No, but just use some tiger seal or im using this stuff with is £25 for the size of a little finger sized tube and is seriously strong.
