was just wondering if a blacktop inlet manifold would fit on the silvertop engine cos apparently this is where the extra 8hp is gained from through the inletmanifold. and would it take alot to convert it? cheers peeps

The inlet ports on the silvertop head are in a different configuration to those on the blacktop head so not it won't fit.

Well an S1 Rallye inlet will only fit the black top heads and not the silvertop either becouse of port spacing or the studs. So no a black top inlet manifold wont fit a silvertop.

:( oh, anyone know any bigger throttle bodies that fit on the standard inlet other than ITB's. and if not any other inlets that fit for more horses cheers

Is the throttle body the bottleneck then?

where the cable goes to open clos the butterfly! do you know if you can get bigger ones of these? for more air flow?

better off with a rallye inlet and get an adaptor plate to made up to suit a vts tb...

will have to be made from atleast 10mm alloy, a machine shop will have to do it....

will give it a bit more life yea...

would be better to spend the money on a cam though for more power.

hmmmmmmmmm ok. i want to do cams but money bit short (and ive herd looking about 600+ for decent job and remapping!!!). especially with having to pay out 230 for insurance to a company thats gone into administration every month :( grrr

Why are you thinking that blacktops have an extra 8bhp?

Its 2001+ (3plug ecu) vtr that has 98bhp instead of 90.

i was always led to believe that blacktop was the newer 98bhp engines and the only real difference power difference was in the inlet manifolds? correct me if im wrong

Nope, silvertop (with a 3 plug ECU, 2001 on, as said) are the 98bhp versions, blacktops, and silvertops (with single plug ECU, pre 2001) are 90bhp. The difference isn't the inlet.

I'm not entirely sure what the difference is, but there's definately not enough of a difference in the inlet for it to make an extra 8bhp.

Pretty sure its a different head on them also the exhaust system setup is different

right to clear things up
blacktop-90bhp, single plug
early silver top-90bhp single plug
late silver top-98bhp three plug

and you will NOT gain 8bhp from changing the inlet manifold, the extra 8 bhp comes from a lot of different modifications, if you have a black top engine or early silver top engine and you wanna change the inlet manifold fit the 106 s1 rallye inlet, but it wont gain you much, just makes a nice sound, really needs to be coupled with the rallye head, a ph2 cam and a remap and then you could be looking at around 120 bhp :y: but it wont fit the 98bhp later silver top
