vtr SOHC, so you only need a single cam...

i personally like newmans as there cheap, yet still high quality and have spoken to mr newman himself a few times.

you'd ideally need:
cam
adjustable pulley
headgasket and headbolts
cambelt, tensioner and water pump.

ideally better off replacing the headgasket, and bolts as you need to take the head off.

sohc is single over head cam thats what vtrs are and youll need what frankie has put down as a major job on vtr as you need to remove the head

i dont know whats included in these "kits", but i doubt its anything close to what you'd need...

You'd be far better off doing a VTS conversion, it could work out at the same cost (including the cost of someone else fitting it) provide better gains, better to drive and better for tuning in the future

modding an 8v is simply pissing into the wind

But as this response is given to every person with an 8v. Most can't insure a vts engine

tbf, could just whack a s1 head on... about £80

comes with a 270 degree cam, which is equivilant to the PH3 iirc.

modding an 8v comments really piss me off...

because its so true.

so how would the insure a cammed vtr?

probably the same, if not more to insure than a vts engine

A highly modded 8v engine (aka cammed vtr engine) will cost more to insure than a 16v ;)

would it not be more logical to save the money for insurance... (obv there will always be better cars out there, but why waste time modding the lower spec engine of any model car?)

yeh your right adam, ive tried getting insured on a vts im going to leave it for a bit till im 21, my mates going to cam it for me, 150 quid does that sound good price?

Wizzy

I cammed a vtr engine and it wasnt pissing money into the wind. I loved it as much as my current 16v.

Buy sensibly, do it right and from a 98bhp model 120bhp is acheivable for a few hundred quid.

So your saying if you tell your insurance company your putting the only thing from the vts that makes it a group 14 car into your vtr they're not gonna punish you more than a cam

Furioman

how likely is mr insurance goin to know you changed the cam if you stack it

Insurance depends on the company. Im looking to go with one that allows as many mods as you want but as long as its within an agreed BHP limit.

As said a VTS WILL cost less than a VTR cammed and mapped a VTS has a much better power band which is basically the whole advantage over the VTR 8valve.
