View Full Version : Need to get my exhaust under 88db advice needed.
Basically I'm going on croft at the end of this month (29th)
The noise limit is 88db. I have measured my car someone I know had a db metre, it come back as 108db from 1 metre (which is what Javelin track days test at)
Now I need to source a standard back box but the question I want answering is, I have a Supersprint centre section with the centre box.
Will having a standard back box on my Supersprint centreboxed centre seciton be the same as having it on a standard Saxo centre section :panic:
Help Appreciated.

what system are you using now, a supersprint straight though? i just changed the one with a middle box, and it brings the noise down alot!!

108's very loud
did you measure it at full throttle?
if so, i beleive most track places DON'T measure it at full throttle

A silenced supersprint system with 2" supersprint back box.

No.
You measure it to 70% of your rev limit and the downrev also.
Also you kind of answered your own question there.
Would just like a straight answer tbh.

not too sure mate, sure itd be less restrictive then stock... so it should in that case be louder??
No it would be louder than a standard system. The greater bore means more volume of air flow. Although i would imaging a standard back box will greatly reduce the noise, try get a newer back box as it will do the job better.
Does it still have the VTR dials? Whack a 1.1 backbox on and tell them your rev limit is 6200 RPM. ;)

Put silencer in, standard backbox & slow rev to 4.5k should see you around that level.
Packable silencer? Something like http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Motorsport/Exhausts/Universal_Exhaust_Silencers/Jetex_Universal_Exhaust_Silencer/1884/5134. I know quite a few people use them to get the noise down, looks a bit weird having another backbox/silencer sticking another 30cm out the back but it works. Iirc bic used them to do trackdays in the 106.
