I am thinking of buying this engine but cannot workout if it is a mk1 or mk2 vtr engine the person selling it says it is from a mk2 however from the pictures i have been sent it looks like a mk2 as it has the mk2 rocker cover and inlet manifold but it seems to have the mk1 thermostat housing and block where the coilpack bolts to.http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/3482/engine2x.jpg (http://img64.imageshack.us/i/engine2x.jpg/)

is it single plug ecu or 3 plug?
I dont know mate i am getting it of ebay it must be a single plug because if it was a 3 plug the dipstick would be on the left in the manifold

looks like the Mk1 90BHP silvertop. This was fitted in the MK2's before 2001.
The oil filter is not on the right hand side of the block in the cartridge. The lambda sensor is on the side of the downpipe as opposed to on top of the exhaust manifold. the inlet/throttle body looks like the earlier version and the location of the power steering reservior is where they are on earlier saxo models. It could have the MK1 setup but most probably is the MK1 engine (90BHP)

1. the dipstick
2. the map sensor is the same location as early silver tops.
3. the inlet plenum is a different shape to 98hp version
