This might have been asked before but I couldnt see the answer when I searched.

I have a 2000 reg vts, wondering if the standard 1 plug ecu can be remapped enough to run things like cams and throttle boddies?

I know stand alone will give better results but just looking into if I can get the boddies on and then have stand alone and proper remap at a later date.

Thanks

yea any ecu can be remapped, the oem ecu and even be re-mapped to run throttle bodies

technically yes --but not the ideal solution --trust me --i would not spend money on remapping std ecu if planning to go bodies + cams --it will not be as good a result ,and when you scrap the car ----who,s going to buy the ecu --
at least with stand alone you will always be able to move ot another type of car or sell it

Split opinions on this one and it will all probably end up in arguments but from what I've heard from reputable tuners:

Yes it can and it will be fine running bodies, turbo etc

No, you'll be better off buying a stand alone ECU that costs pennies to make and will charge you hundres for.

I'm not disputing what Mr GMC says above as I've used him for many items inthe past, but I can't get my head around what putting 1s and 0s on one chip, makes over putting them on another

Thanks guys.

I understand they wouldnt be as good as stand alone management but I doubt I will be able to afford a omex or similar for a while so was hoping to run the standard ecu.

I'm sure I've seen comments on here about remaps and that on the single plug saxo engines are actually easier to remap than the 3 plug types.
